Before Ronaldo came, they were already the club with the most UCL trophies in history. Every club has highs and lows. That they started winning it again was most likely due to the signing of Zidane as their coach. It had little to do with Ronaldo.
This is not to discredit Ronaldo though. He is a fantastic player of course. The point is he is not the type that singlehandedly carries a team. He is more of a finisher. A typical old-fashioned striker. There have been lots of players like that in history. And it's not a bad thing. But replacing such players is not that hard. And that's what we've been seeing lately. The same can't be said for a player like Messi. Who will they replace him with?
