Ashraf never wants his children to know how he makes money He added: 'I beg so that I can educate my children. I want them to go to school and pursue a career of their choice. 'But I want to give up begging before my children grow up so that they never come to know. 'I hope someone can give me a break before my children ever come to know that their father has had to beg.' Dr Jaswan Shakya, medical director of Sushma Koirala Memorial Hospital, in Nepal, deals with many cases of abnormalities. He said that Ashraf’s hands could only be operated on if the bones have not increased in size as a result of the condition. Dr Shakya added: 'It is not a life-threatening situation but it causes a lot of problems in day-to-day life.' (pictured eating food at a roadside vendor)

But his family and close friends have no idea that he has to beg because he is too embarrassed to confess. Ashraf does not want surgery as all doctors have suggested amputation, which he has refused. Instead he believes God will be kind to him one day (pictured having tea in a market in Karachi)

Ashraf was born with hands bigger than normal, but as he has become older his condition has worsened. People do not give me a job due to the condition so I have no other choice but to beg. During his adult life he has desperately tried to find work but no-one has agreed to employ him. He married his wife, whose name is unknown, five years ago and they have three children together, aged five, three and 18 months. At one point, Ashraf collapsed on the streets after suffering heat stroke from the sheer amount of walking he does each day. But he has since learnt his lesson, after his stay in hospital cost him more money than his family were able to afford. Instead of walking miles in the blistering heat, he chooses to beg between 3pm and 11pm to avoid another instance of heat stroke. His wife provides the family with a small income through domestic jobs, but it doesn't bring in enough money, Ashraf said.

Ashraf refuses surgery as he places his hopes in God. Ashraf does not want surgery as all doctors have suggested amputation, which he has refused. Instead he believes God will be kind to him one day. He said: 'I pray before my lord that one day I will be fine. 'I wish to open a general store which I could run with my wife and children but it feels like just a dream. 'I wish someone could help me achieve my dream. My children suffer due to my condition and I want them to have better than what I can offer them.'

A Pakistani father-of-three unable to get a job due to his giant hands has been forced to beg on the streets to feed his family. Ashraf-ud-din, 70, from Karachi, has suffered from the rare condition macrodactyly all of his life - a congenital form of gigantism. Despite previously being employed and working in a restaurant, he was sacked as customers refused to accept food off him. Numerous attempts to find himself another job have proved unsuccessful, leaving him desperate for an income to provide for his young children, with the youngest being just 18 months old. His time spent on the streets, where he begs for nine hours a day and earns Rs 400 (£3), sees him abused by strangers who ridicule him and shout nasty comments. But his family and close friends have no idea that he has to beg because he is too embarrassed to confess. Unemployed - he's forced to beg Ashraf said: 'People always taunt me. They say I’m cursed or I’ve been punished by God. People feel disgusted when they look at me. It’s very humiliating. 'The size of my hands have stopped me gaining any skill or talent to earn money. 'And people do not give me a job due to the condition so I have no other choice but to beg. It is not my profession by choice, but by helplessness. 'I’ve done everything to find a job. I even tried working in a restaurant some years back but people refused to take food off me so I was sacked. 'Since then no one has recruited me. I’ve been offered work as a labourer but my hands won’t allow me to do such work, they hurt.' http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-4558708/Father-3-unable-job-GIANT-hands.html

A woman kept her dead mother hidden in a freezer for ten years so she could continue to claim an old age pension equivalent to £1700-a-month, prosecutors revealed today. The 90-year-old’ corpse was found after detectives started investigating the alleged social security fraudster, who is 55 and cannot be named for legal reasons. She was living in a detached house in the picturesque village of Horsarrieu, close to Pau, in South West France, with her mother’s remains at the end of the garden. ‘They were hidden in a freezer, and there had been no report of the mother’s death,’ said a prosecuting source in nearby Mont-de-Marsan, capital of the Landes department. ‘The freezer was not connected to the electricity supply going into the house. It was just a hiding place,’ the source added. The suspect was first interviewed by gendarmes on Tuesday, and claimed that her mother had died seven years ago. Investigators noticed, however, that there had been no medical fees claimed by the mother since 2007, suggesting that the time of death was more likely to be a decade ago. The Mirror reports that all the mother’s benefits arrangements, including drawing an old age pension, continued as normal throughout that time. At the time of death, the pair were living some 200 miles away, close to Toulouse, which means that the woman would have transported the corpse in secret when they moved to Horsarrieu in July 2016. Police have evidence that the suspect had put her own picture on her mother’s driving licence – an offence that led to a search of the property. The corpse was found wrapped in a tarpaulin, with old clothes used to hide it. An autopsy was due to be held on Wednesday to try to establish whether the mother had died of natural causes, or whether foul play was involved. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/05/buharis-mid-term-report-on-sme-sector-big-strides-little-progress/ |
A man has died after taking part in a vodka drinking competition organised by a supermarket in Russia. The ‘Who Can Drink More Vodka’ contest saw five participants rushed to intensive care, with one dying from consuming too much alcohol. 40 men are believed to have entered the contest The bizarre competition took place in the city of Volgodonsk in south-western Russia’s Rostov Oblast region and was organised by a local supermarket called Saveliy. Police are believed to have started a criminal case against the shop for causing death by negligence as well as violating an advertising law which prohibits any action that stimulates the consumption of alcoholic beverages. A total of 40 men took part in the drinking competition which saw them down vodka which had been put in buckets. Salami and bread were offered by the shop to line the stomachs of the men, with the winner promised 10 bottles of vodka as a prize. It is reported that just minutes after the competition ended some participants felt unwell. Doctors arrived and diagnosed six participants with severe intoxication. According to Mirror, one man later died as a result. He has not been named. Doctor Mikhail Kravchenko said about the deceased participant: “He managed to drink about three litres of vodka, which most likely wouldn’t have ended in death if it was a normal person.” Vice regional prosecutor Sergey Labenets said it is possible that the organisers of the event will escape punishment as participants joined in on a voluntary basis. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/05/man-dies-drinks-3-litres-vodka/

By Evelyn Usman Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, has dismissed 20 of its officials over alleged corrupt acts ranging from extortion, misconduct to indiscipline. Twenty other officials were sanctioned over acts deemed not to be in consonance with the agency‘s rules and provisions of the Lagos State Civil Service, while 15 others were given letters of warning over their misdemeanour, as well as admonition to desist from any act that could be inimical to the image of the agency. General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olawale Musa, said in a statement issued to Vanguard yesterday and signed by LASTMA Head, Public Affairs, Mamud Hassan, said that the dismissed officials had been directed to immediately hand over all government property in their possession to the agency’s Head of Administration and Human Resources. He explained that the decision was taken by the Lagos State Civil Service Commission “at the end of its policy meeting that considered the minutes of the Personal Management Board (Disciplinary) of LASTMA and representations made by the traffic officials involved in the unwholesome acts. “Getting rid of bad eggs from the agency is a continuous exercise. The agency will not tolerate corruption and any act of indiscipline from traffic officials.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/05/lastma-sacks-20-over-corruption-cautions-35/
