Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. (Ephesians 6:10-18 KJV) LET US PRAY: Lord, I choose to be strong in You and in the power of Your might. I choose to lean on Your understanding and Your promises. I choose to commit my way to You that You may straighten it, establish it, and keep it free from storm. Lord, I choose to put You first in everything that I do, that nothing will be impossible for me. I choose to love You with all my might, strength, mind, and heart. As I choose to glorify You with everything that I do, say and think, bless me in everything I do. In Jesus' Name. Amen. 1 Like |

Nairaland / General / NO Nigerian Language Has A Literal Translation For “I Am Sorry”! by Olayemie(m): 10:03pm On Nov 06, 2013 |
Last week in a bus I boarded, a woman after being told by the conductor to “Abeg enter with your change o, i nor get change at all at all o. Na beg i dey beg o!”, entered and gave the conductor a thousand Naira note. Quite frankly I have never seen a Lagos bus conductor plead so much. The conductor berated the woman vituperatively for ignoring is plea. All the woman could say was; “Abeg nor vex”. It occurred to me that “Abeg nor vex” is not an apology, but an appeal to the offended party not to escalate the matter. That is when I discovered that possibly, NO Nigerian language has a sentence that can be literally translated into “i am sorry”.The three major languages attest to this discovery. Hausa: Yakuri (take patience) Yoruba: Ma binu (don’t get angry) Igbo: Eweliwe (don’t get angry) Ibibio (my dialect): Ku yat esit (don’t get angry) Can i conclude with this that NO Nigerian Language has a literal translation for “I am sorry”? How do you say “I am sorry” in your dialect and does it literally translate? |
Religion / Lying To Receive Self-glory May Be Dangerous by Olayemie(m): 7:53pm On Nov 04, 2013 |
Many people today lie because they want to be known and accepted in society, among their peers/colleagues. An adage says " Lying because of prestige brings shame. " paraphrased: The prestige may come but just for a brief moment; but shame then follows. Many people lie because they see it as a diplomatic way of saving oneself. Alas! It leads to doom. As you go out today do away lie; it is a sin and God Hates sin. Live a plain life to please God; and not man. PRAYERS: (1) Deliver me, oh Lord, from lies. (2) Help me to be truthful always. 1 Like |
