A beautiful flowering tree
Blossoming all year round
Frail and bare other trees stand in winter
Remains alluring all seasons long

Roots so deep, yet so tall
Lush green leaves, succulent and bright
Silky bed for the morning dew
Every inch, a reflector of light

Petals and sepals wide open
Anther richly laden with pollen
Glows in the sun, shimmers in a drizzle
Still unchanged when the day is bleak

Nectar-sucking birds and insects
Travel from far and near
Just to have a fill of its special elixir
Yet its reservoir never runs dry

Luscious fruits, a child’s delight
It’s juice, a cure for the ailing heart
It’s cool shade, a place of rest for a weary traveler
Appeal so strong, too special to waste

Its name I do not know
After all it’s just an imagination
But I’m so enthralled by the picture in my mind’s-eye
That I’ve deduced…

I wish for it to be me
Standing firm through thick and thin
Unaffected by the winds of emotion blowing fiercely
Ever only in the presence of my God

Beautiful within and without
A large reservoir of wisdom embedded in my tongue
A remarkable source of strength to the weak
A glimmer of hope to the broken hearted
