Scientists have discovered an antibiotic which could be used to treat tuberculosis and drug-resistant infections caused by superbugs in the future. The antibiotic, named teixobactin, has been shown to kill infections in mice without encountering any detectable resistance. Teixobactin has been shown to fight resistant strains of tuberculosis and Staphylococcus during laboratory experiments. The drug works by binding to fatty molecules that are the building blocks for bacterial cell walls. The binding point is less prone to mutation - the evolutionary process that drives drug resistance http://todaysnewsy..com/2015/01/new-antibiotic-teixobactin-could-help.html

This day on 7 January 1972, Iberia Airlines Flight 602 crashed into a mountain near Ibiza town, Spain. The flight had taken off from Valencia airport in Valencia. Spain, destined for Ibiza airport on the Balearic island of Ibiza, also in Spain. All 98 passengers and 6 crew died in the crash. The crash Flight 602 was a domestic service flight that took off from Valencia Airport bound for Ibiza. The aircraft was under the command of a 37-year-old Captain with 7,000 flying hours' experience. On board were 6 crew and 98 passengers, most of whom were Valencia natives returning to Ibiza for work after the holidays. At approximately 12:15 p.m., the aircraft's captain radioed Ibiza Airport, requesting permission to descend to 5,500 feet (1,676 meters). Ibiza Airport sources reported that he also said, "Get me a beer ready, we are here. The aircraft was approaching Runway 07 when it descended below 2,000 feet (610 meters). Reportedly, neither the captain nor the co-pilot noticed the dangerous descent, as they were discussing a football match with the airport tower controller. Flight 602 struck Mount Atalayasa approximately 90 feet (30 meters) below its 1,515-foot (462-meter) summit. The aircraft exploded on impact. All passengers and crew on board were killed. At the time of the crash, visibility was approximately 5–10 miles and the weather was described as high overcast with broken clouds. It was ruled that the pilot had failed to maintain the minimum flight altitude for a visual approach to Runway, which leads to the death of all the passengers and the crew, making 104 in total. Today the whole world remember you,may your gentle soul rest in perfect peace. http://todaysnewsy..com/2015/01/iberia-airlines-flight-602.html

On Jan 5th 1993, the Liberian registered tanker MV Braer carrying 85 000 tonnes of crude oil run aground in hurricane force winds off the Shetland islands and large amounts of crude oil spilled into the north sea which causes an ecological disaster in the area. What is an ecological disaster? Ecological disaster is when the environment of a species or a population changes in a way that destabilizes its continued survival, this is due to the environment being unfavorable for the survival of a species. There was no doubt that this incident will put hazard to the species. The captain and crew of the vessel were air transports to safety by helicopter when it became clear that the disaster was threatening to happen. The Liberian tanker was on its way from Norway to Canada when it lost power to an extremely strong wind that measure 11 on the beau fort scale in the early morning. The 800 – foot vessel was built in japan in 1975 and does not have the more modern double hull which would lessen the chance of oil – spillage, in which oil began pouring from the ruptured tanks on the vessel. The plans to deal with the environmental impact of such a disaster are in place, but the incident still causes a lot of disaster. A total of 84 700 tonnes out of 85 000 tonnes of crude oil spilled into the north sea after the MV Braer ran aground, causing huge damage. Bad weather was blamed for the accident, but never the less the actions of Alexandros Gelis the ship’s captain was condemned because read more about the outcome of this incident http://todaysnewsy..com/2015/01/the-effect-of-jan-5th-1993shetland-isle.html

Global unemployment hit record high: international labor organization (ILO) Global unemployment has top record level in 2013, and continues rising until 2017, a report by the United Nations labor agency warned, adding that the labor market situation remains particularly discouraging the world’s youth. The international labor organization (ILO) said the number of jobless people around the world rose by 4 million in 2012 to 197 million, and the report also predicted that with the acceleration of growth, the global unemployment rate is expected to rise to more than 210 million before 2018. Many people have searched for work, but in vain and when it comes to provision for family, so many felt like a failure as a man and began to feel worthless. If you have nothing, people treat you as nothing and before long you begin to view yourself the way they view you. Each person who joins the ranks of the unemployed faces the additional challenge to living on less. When we had the money, we never thought of cutting back, but when the same expenses came and we still had no work, we had no choice but to simplify. While looking for work, you need to cope with the mental and emotional anxiety caused by unemployment; you may also have to live on less. What are the practical steps you can take to deal with the emotional challenges? How can you live on less? GET THE ANSWER TO THAT BIG QUESTION AT http://todaysnewsy..com/2015/01/global-unemployment-hit-record-high-ilo.html

What you should know about January 1? Roman Empire (i.e. land ruled by single authority) uses Julian calendar (i.e. calendar introduced by Julius Caesar in 46 BC) before been replaced by Gregorian calendar (i.e. calendar introduced in 1582 by Pope Gregory XIII). It was replaced due to Julius Caesar murdered. Romans originally dedicated New Year’s Day to Janus the god of gates, doors, and beginnings for whom the first month of the year January is named. Later, as a date in the Gregorian calendar of Christendom, New Year’s Day traditionally mark the large meal of the circumcision of Christ. In present day, most countries now use the Gregorian calendar as their facts calendar, which is now the world’s most celebrated public holiday, often observed with fireworks in the midnight and lively enjoyment; usually involve eaten, drinking, dancing, and noise, as the New Year starts in each time zone. Did you know that New Year’s has not always been celebrated on January 1 Most countries in Western Europe officially adopted January 1 as New Year’s Day by adopting Gregorian calendar. England adopted it in 1752, and before that date they celebrated New Year on March 25, known as lady’s day. read more at http://todaysnewsy..com/2014/12/what-you-should-know-about-january-1new.html

AN IMPORTANT EVENT On Nov27th, 2001.A hydrogen atmosphere was discovered on the extra solar planet called Osiris by the Hubble space telescope, the first atmosphere detected on an extra solar planet. What are extra solar planets? Extra solar or Exo solar planet is a planet that orbit a star other than the sun, mankind has been trying to prove their existence since the telescope was invented in 1610. Why this research? The ultimate goal of this search is to find a planet that would be capable of supporting life i.e.an earth-like planet that would be a suitable distance from the sun for it to support life. An international team of astronomers uses the Hubble space telescope to discovered oxygen and carbon other than hydrogen. Does this finding means that the planet support life? Far from it, it is oxygen in a very harsh environment. The planet, not certainly named Osiris, is a gas giant nearly the size of Jupiter. It is orbiting just 4.3 million miles from its star – one- eighth the distance between our sun and its nearest planet mercury, so it’s hot, an estimated 1832 degrees Fahrenheit on the surface Osiris was discovered in 1999, (and it was named after an Egyptian god, usually identified as the god of the afterlife, the underworld and the dead) It was the first extra solar plant discovered to have an atmosphere hydrogen and a bit of sodium and it is now also the first to be found to have oxygen and carbon in its atmosphere, although the findings was not surprising because oxygen and carbon are known to be present in the atmosphere of nearby gas giants, such as Jupiter and Saturn SOURCE - http://todaysnewsy..com/2014/12/discovery-of-hydrogen-atmosphere-on.html
