Worth tempering this a little. The building part genuinely has got faster - idea to working code in an afternoon is real now. What hasn't changed is everything around it: knowing which problem is worth solving, spotting when the output is confidently wrong, and grinding through the unglamorous walls - rate limits, bot checks, expired tokens - that no model thinks its way past. It lowers the entry barrier, it doesn't remove the need to understand what the machine is doing. |
From what I've seen, the assistants mainly speed up the parts that were already mechanical - boilerplate, first-draft tests, chasing a stack trace. The harder parts haven't moved much: deciding what to build, noticing when an answer is confidently wrong, and owning the thing once it's in production. The people who struggle are the ones who paste output without reading it. Treat it like a fast but careless colleague and it's genuinely useful. |
