I remember a story I heard some years ago from a friend whose younger cousin graduated from one of the federal universities in Nigeria. When she graduated, her family celebrated, took pictures, and danced. She graduated with a second-class upper, so it calls for celebration because it is believed that her chance of getting a job was high. But a few months later, reality hit hard.

She couldn’t find a job. Her parents supported her for a while, but they couldn't do much because they have other of her siblings in school too. Rather, they were expecting her contribution to the family already since she has graduated. She didn’t know how to budget her little savings. She had no idea how to start a business or even write a proper CV.

One day, she came to my friend, who happened to be her cousin, crying, “Aunty, nobody told me it would be like this.” 💔

When she narrated her story to me, that’s when it hit me. Schools prepared us for exams, but not for real life.

As Nigerian parents, we work hard to give our children the best education, but is school enough? In today’s world, our children need more than just math and English. They need real-life skills that schools don’t teach.

A Nigerian man, Quadri Yakubu, has disclosed how he became a happier man and husband after he quit his banking job.

Taking to his Twitter page, the young man stated that the distance from his house and his workplace was very far which put some pressure on him at work.

He disclosed that he had marital issues when he used to work at the bank but he became more happier when he stopped his banking job.

He wrote,
