A sole proprietorship is a one man business...partnership means they are more than one running the business, meaning there are partners

What is Name Reservation?

This is simply the stage where you reserve the brand name with CAC

What do I mean by that?

In lay man terms, It's simply the process where you send the name to CAC so they can check at their end if the name is registrable or not

We have talked about Name Search, the next is Name Reservation.

One thing you should take note of is the payment of annual returns.

Annual returns is a yearly payment to CAC 18 months after your registration has been approved and your certificate delivered

7k for NGO

Name search is the first and very essential part of the registration process.

If you fail to carry it out, you may waste money on reservation fee to CAC.

So the whole process of Name search is how to know the name availability of any brand name

The name search is also used to confirm if a certificate is real or not.

Once you input the BN number, the name of the business will pop up, if it's real.

The process is very important so you don't waste your time trying to register a name that has already been taken by someone else

What is Name search?

Name Search is done to know if a brand name you intend to register has been registered by someone else or not, and you can know that by using the CAC search site

Another thing is you create an account for every business or company you want to register if you are using the public portal

But for the agent portal, you won't have to do that

It's always stress free, compared to Public portal

The C. A. Commission provided the public portal for all CAC registrations and also the accredited agent portal.

This is available to everyone , although it has some limitations

While the accredited agent portal is for lawyers and chattered accountant or someone with such details to open one

They're slightly different, as you can't carry out post incorporation jobs on the public portal but you can only do that on the agent portal.

And you can either use the public portal for a registration

Or an accredited agent portal

All these 3 categories of registrations can be carried out by any individual at all...

NGO; Registration of Incorporated Trustees:

- Suitable for non-profit organizations, religious bodies like church, charities, and other similar entities.

Company registration

- Suitable for businesses that want to operate as a separate legal entity.
- Involves registering a company with the CAC, which can be a private company limited by shares (Ltd), public company limited by shares (Plc), or a company limited by guarantee (Ltd/Gte).

- Offers benefits such as limited liability protection and the ability to raise capital through shares.

Business Name Registration

- Suitable for sole proprietorships and partnerships.
- Involves registering a unique business name for your venture or enterprise
- Provides legal recognition and protection for your personal business, such that no one else can register your brand name again.

1) *BUSINESS REGISTRATION*
Brand that falls under Business name or Enterprise - These are small scale business, with one or two persons running it (Sole proprietorship and Partnership respectively)


2) *COMPANY REGISTRATION*
Brands That *MUST* be Registered as a Limited Liability Company - and they are usually within 2 to 50 members or more


3) Incoporated Trustees: These are NGO, CHURCH, MOSQUE, CLUB, Association etc

They are simply non profitable organisations, which means they are not established to make profits

CAC is to business owners what NIMC is to all Nigerians.

Without a national Identity Number(NIN) there is no means by which the government can identify you.

Without RC(Registered Company no) BN(Business number) or IT(incorporated trustee number) a business, Company, or NGO will not be recognized by the government or corporate bodies.
