UPDATE 2: i called one of my lecture and he told me that ASUP suspend the strike for four weeks. during this time all what they request for must be implemented if not they. Will embark on another strike. |
Negotiations by the Federal government to end the ongoing nationwide Industrial strike action embarked upon by the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP has yielded positive results as the Union has suspended the action. The decision was made by the National Executive Committee of the Union as a result of the intervention of the Joint committee of the Senate and House of Representative on Education. The 3-months old strike that had grounded academic activities in Polytechnics across the country has been suspended. As a result, polytechnic students will be expected to return to their classrooms as soon as possible |
The ASUP Chairman, Dr. Chibuzor Asumogba, told Vanguard in a phone interview that the decision was made by the National Executive Committee of the Union as a result of the intervention of the Joint committee of the Senate and House of Representative on Education. He said the union gave the government representatives one month to accede to their demands and release the white paper on the visitation panel to federal polytechnics. The ASUP Chairman however, called on all lecturers to go back to work. “All lecturers are to resume work at their various institutions today”, He said. |
