I understand the argument about Lagos being the safest market for investment, but nation building cannot be reduced to investing only where the returns are already guaranteed. If every major investor keeps thinking this way, Lagos will continue to attract everything while other states remain underdeveloped, and that eventually creates the same problems we complain about in Lagos: congestion, unaffordable housing, traffic and pressure on infrastructure.
Take the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, for example. The investment wasn't simply about putting a stadium where the biggest immediate market was. It helped put Uyo on the map, attract events, improve tourism and create economic activity around the facility. That's what people-centric investment should look like.
Investment should certainly be strategic, but it should also be people-centric. If we always ask, “Where will I make the quickest and safest profit?” without asking “What can this investment do for the development of this community?”, then we are building Lagos, not Nigeria.
Lagos cannot continue to carry the entire country on its back. We need viable economic centres in Uyo, Ibadan, Enugu, Kano, Ilorin, Benin, Abeokuta, Kaduna and other cities. Develop the infrastructure, create opportunities and make those places attractive for businesses and people. Nation building requires spreading opportunity, not endlessly concentrating it in one city.

I hope you know and agree that all this you mentioned here are for the government and not private individuals....
