Politics › Re: Nigeria’s FX Reserves Have Risen 53% In Less Than 3 Years by PDPdestroyer(m): 8:46am On Feb 10 |
DeLaRue: Without that 'daft' speech as you call it, we would still be parabulating like Argentina infinitely searching for a solution.
With the economic turnaround now manifesting, that speech has turned out to be one of the most inspired speeches ever made by any Nigerian in the history of this country.
For clarification, speeches declaring Nigeria's independence, and speeches declaring and accepting the end of the horrible civil war are thousand times more important.
My point is, at an economic level, Mr Tinubu's speech declaring the end of subsidy will be talked and written about for decades to comes simply because of the monumental damage the fraudulent subsidy was doing to Nigeria, and how the evisceration of subsidy marked the beginning of a new era in the economic history of this country. Those Obidients were expecting the president to call for a round table meeting with the oil cabals to agree on a possible date for the removal of fuel subsidy The fallout from such would have been devastating, they think subsidy removal is child’s play. The only way to do it is to take everyone unawares because once you don’t, it will face heavy resistance and the resultant fuel scarcity will be unprecedented because every retail outlet will shut down in anticipation of higher prices |

GloriousGbola: the power problem can be solved if we as nigerians are willing to bite the bullet and start paying actual cost of power. no one is going to invest in power when it is still being subsidized. that is the reality. nigeria can no longer afford to subsidise power
there is also the issue of corrupt legacy nepa staff all through the system who have the govt is paying for power mindset and who will continue to sabotage metering initiatives for their own gain Don’t mind all those ignorant kids who propose simple solutions to complex problems. If it were that easy why has the problem persisted outlasting 15 different presidents and heads of state? The solution requires everyone to make sacrifices as you have said, but nobody is ready for that, they prefer to whin and complain while hoping for one messiah that would make power cheap and available miraculously |

casualobserver: Truth be told, while it is exciting to see the new roads being constructed, I keep scratching my head at the thought process behind the design of the coastal road. Makes no sense to me. I anticipate a lot of accidents on Lagos-Cal due to poor hard shoulder design. You’re right. The hard shoulder should have been designed to drift inwards from the motorway to avoid collision of oncoming with stationary vehicles on the hard shoulder |
