He has to operate on low key knowing what is playing out. Same issue will very much affect Atiku too. He is also on State Department's list of people they wish to investigate for corruption. |

Enough has already been said and implied. The same El-Rufai that was stoned in his domain of Kaduna and subsequently lost his polling unit in and important election that was meant to rest his popularity or another one ? ADC is a party of EXs and formers that have lost substantial influence in their domains. Anybody is free to keep swimming in fantasy streams anyway. The shock that awaits all these pretenders, perpetual contestants and serial failures can better be imagined. |
Politics › Re: How Come The North Buys More Cement Than The South In Nigeria? by PenSniper: 6:20pm On Jan 13 |
lawani: Everybody works and therefore everybody have money but the records says Northern Nigeria buys around sixty percent of cement produced in Nigeria even when NIN records say they are around 55 percent of Nigeria's population. This establishes clearly that they are pulling more than their weight in building houses despite the common narrative that they are poor. Why are they building more houses? The only reason I can think of is that they do not waste money as much as Southerners on trying to relocate abroad. In any case, most of them don't hold qualifications that will grant them easy passage. The average person relocating to the UK now will spend over 30 million naira which is enough to build a house. I project that Northern Nigeria is leading in many other sectors of the economy too if checked. Why not if they are leading in cement purchases?. What other reason do you think is why the North is pulling above it's weight in cement purchases and hence building of houses?
Consider the following factors: Apart from the fact that they don't migrate overseas, they rarely build houses in other parts of Nigeria except very few of their elites which is even minimal.
Another factor to consider is smuggling to Nigeria, etc, due to a very porous border. Again we need to also consider the fact that while they refrain from building houses in other parts of Nigeria, many southerners build houses in the north including Abuja. There may also be more constructions going on in Abuja than many other cities in Nigeria though I stand corrected. |
Politics › Re: Nigerian Based In Germany Compares 42% German Tax With 30% Nigerian Tax by PenSniper: 6:03pm On Jan 13 |
nairalanda1: No, most of the complaints about the tax regime come from most Nigerians..
The problem started at independence, which was sold to most of the population the following way...all that money we send to the UK we will spend it on you here. Plus, we were also told that Nigeria has a lot of resources, and all we need to do is to sell them and we would be prosperous. That worked until our population outgrew the ability of the resources to sustain it.(and then we discovered oil, then ten years later oil prices rose so high that it snuffed out other sources of income..leading to losses in jobs and productive capacity, which was already not good enough to begin with). Problem no 1.
Also, corruption. As Oshiomole once said, Nigeria is that country where a borehole (then ) that costs N2M would be done for N10m, and no one would complain. Every day we have been hearing of corruption cases for decades. In the millions of naira, sometimes billions. This gives the flawed idea that Nigeria is so rich, otherwise why would they be stealing from Nigeria? No one steals from a poor man or nation, is another flawed idea. Meanwhile, people look at the money stolen, look at the bad anemities, and conclude, logically, that since Naija is a rich nation, that means most of the money is being hidden somewhere...and matters are not helped that billions have been looted over the decades. (Recovering the loot is another matter...see Abacha loot, he died in 1998, we are still finding the money even up till today)...problem no 2.
Only a tiny minority are playing politics with the thing, and even among that tiny minority, are people who are genuinely angry still. And let's be honest, this government is not fighting corruption, just like past governments. See Malami, people feel that 1) tinubu is prosecuting him because he is the enemy, meanwhile tinubu pals go scott free 2) why didn't Buhari prosecute him since, if he was that bad? You are largely right. Funny enough, the only grouse I have against Tinubu is the selective corruption war but I believe he is playing Safe against 2nd term. Ditto for insecurity. Both issues are too complex to handle as is necessary given the complex nature of Nigeria. Do you remember Sule Lamido's intimating hypothesis about Nigerian ? He said all of them who are politicians are thieves and the ideology that binds them together is corruption. He added that for as long as Nigerians remain divided by tribe and religion, they will never be able to fight for their rights against politicians who employ those tools to divide them. Buhari did not fight corruption but only as we have it presently. I have a bunch that Tinubu is bidding his time until 2nd term. He is more likely to be more radical and assertive. Though I did not vote for him, Tinubu has taken me back by most of his policies so far. As far as I know, this is the first govt in the history of this country that is just begging to put this country on the right economic pedestal and I've been around for a while. All previous govts adopted the fire brigade approach. Nigerian would've gone far and better developed if we had sustained the 10-year development template of early period. |

Yankee101: Some people don’t understand why we’re complaining about the taxes The countries that tax that high provide so much for their citizens Also oil producing countries like us in the Middle East don’t pay personal income taxes and yet get great amenities No sense made here at all. With regards to other oil producing countries in the Middle East, what about the population and land size differences ? And the difference in the quantity of oil reserves. Would these not count ? They have more oil reserves and far less people and landmass to cater for. As for essential services being provided, will they provide these before or after the collection of tax? The citizens can only complain if they fail in providing those services after collecting the tax. |
Politics › Re: Nigerian Based In Germany Compares 42% German Tax With 30% Nigerian Tax by PenSniper: 4:39pm On Jan 13 |
seunmsg: Less than 10% of Nigerians pay personal income tax. In fact, only those in well structured paid employment get to pay. Even at that, over 90% of them don’t pay up to 30%.
Again, it’s sad to see people ignorantly thinking their personal income taxes goes to FG. No, your taxes goes to your state government fully. Tinubu gets all the blame for the tax reform while state governors take every personal income tax. Even the VAT, states take 85% while FG takes 15%. Nigeria is probably the only country where the central government doesn’t take a dime from payroll tax. In US, Germany etc, FG takes the lion share from payroll tax. Not in Nigeria. Thank you. I appreciate your excellent contribution. I particularly love your references to FFG, state governors, personal income tax and aptfully using the phrases "well structured salary". These few unfortunate Nigerians are those that have been carrying the burnt of tax payment for decades. A large percentage of the so-called businessmen and women in this country don't pay tax. All the hullabaloo raised against the tax reform have largely come a specific mischievous group of Nigerians who have vowed to see nothing good about this government. They are the unpatriotic lot that would rather see Nigeria go down. It is nauseating to see so-called political leaders sheepishly joining the fray in the name of opposition politics. |

surgical: Very simple to understand, the north total plus southwest gave enough votes This time thec north plus south east votes. Plus South south votes leaves Tinubu with only south west,so there is no path way to victory for Tinubu, ok let's be generous and give south south to Tinubu even though unlikely That will mean south west plus south south votes for Tinubu, still does not give him any pathway to victory Only rigging can make him win, in that case he will have to commit large scale murder to achieve that, and any victory earn through such atrocities can not last Your flawed analysis is apparently based on your wishful thinking but unfortunately, that is not how it works, okay ? This is a hint: Tinubu is going to retire all these politicians making noise all over the place finally inv2027. And the election will be free and fair. Tinubu wants to ensure that as a legacy |

Validated: Op, Buhari's cult following in the North is no longer on the APC ballot. By the way, why are APC apologists fixated on Peter Obi? 2023 results have shown everyone that New Nigeria is POssible. You are very wrong. Who is the most garrulous politician in Nigeria today ? Peter Obi and he is always that for very narratives which is why he has to be countered. If you must know, Peter Obi does not even count in Tinubu's permutations . As for Buhari's cult votes, those votes were made possible with Tinubu's support. With all his cult followership, he suffered three shameful defeats until Tinubu came to his aid. |
Politics › Re: If Atiku-obi Couldn't Defeat Buhari, Why Do You Think It Can Defeat Tinubu? by PenSniper: 8:07pm On Jan 11 |
AMINDA: Governors relied on Buhari’s popularity to win their elections. Buhari had cult-like followership until and even after his death. Buhari has 12m organic supporters in the North. Now compare with Tinubu who only won with 8m votes and 5.6m of those votes coming from the North while losing in Lagos and Osun, his home turf. Compare with a Tinubu whoe's desperately relying on the popularity or might of the state governors to win his own re-election. Then you'll realise that Tinubu is not Buhari. Atiku/Obi pulled 11m votes against a Buhari. It will be a walk-over against Tinubu. ... You are very wrong and ignorant of issues on the ground. Quite to the contrary, all the governors defecting to the APC do so to enjoy the grace of Tinubu for their re-election. They realize that they will against Tinubu's tsunami in 2027. The votes you ascribed to Buhari in 2015 and 2027 was due to Tinubu's support and backing. Remember that Buhari had vowed not to contest again after serial failures. It was Tinubu who persuaded him with the assurance that with his backing, he would win. Buhari, on his own, did not have the clout to win those elections To buttress this, despite the opposition of Buhari and his cult cabal against Tinubu, he defeated them even as an outsider. In case you don't know, the opposition Tinubu faced in 2023 was not only from the opposing parties but from within his own party and his own people in the SW. The Yoruba were largely against him. I know because I was part of it . All that has changed. Take it or leave it, Tinubu already has the SW, SS, NC and a large part of NE sewn up for him. Only those in the know who have their ears to the ground will tell you this |

Reno Omokri challenged anyone to debunk his statement that poverty level doubled in Anambra during Peter Obi's tenure as Governor of Anambra state. He offered a prize of Naira equivalent of 10,000 dollars.
A twitter user has debunked the claim by Reno Omokri and Reno has not responded since 2024.
Now notice how Reno Omokri didn't mention poverty level doubled this time around. He is now saying it was a 29.7% increase.
Please how is 53.7%- 41.4 %= 29.7%?
Reno Omokri can't even do simple maths.
Tinubu was governor from 1999-2007. From the NBS report of 2003-04 when Tinubu was still governor, poverty rate in Lagos was 69.4%.
Tinubu gave Lagos a poverty rate of 69.4%. No wonder he's replicating same on national level @jmoore, you are a barefaced liar. I challenge you to post the Twitter user's response here.
