A coalition of militant groups in the Niger Delta region have threatened to resume attacks on oil installations in the region over alleged unfulfilled promises by the Federal Government to the people of the oil rich region.
The militant groups, under the aegis of the Coalition of Niger Delta Agitators, said in a statement sent via email to a correspondent on Sunday that the Federal Government, under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari, was not sincere in resolving the crisis in the Niger Delta.

The statement was signed by the leader of Niger Delta Watchdog, General John Duku; General Ekpo Ekpo of the Niger Delta Volunteers, Commander’ Henry Etete of the Niger Delta People’ s Fighters and Commander Asuquo Henshaw of the Bakassi Freedom Fighters.

Duku, who also signed as the leader of the coalition, recalled in the statement that nothing had happened since the Pan Niger Delta Elders’ Forum met with the President in November 2016.

He added that PANDEF persuaded them ( militants) to sheathe their swords and embrace dialogue. The statement said , “There is no more time ; the Federal Government must act now and show seriousness and commitment to the plight of Niger Delta or we will be forced to resume attacks.

Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello has been accused by Senator Dino Melaye of plotting to assassinate him for fighting for the state’s workers and pensioners.

Reacting to the Senator’s allegation, Bello said he did not believe that Melaye would “make such a sweeping statement on security matters.”

The governor, speaking through his Director -General, Media and Publicity, Kingsley Fanwo, said he did not believe that was the position of the senator, adding that Melaye’s supporters, who he described as “largely ignorant about security matters,” might be the ones behind the allegations.

Dino, while addressing women of Kogi West Senatorial District, who embarked on a peaceful protest at Aiyetoro-Gbede, noted that workers and pensioners in the state were suffering and dying, following the non-payment of 15-month salaries and pensions by the governor.

The senator said, “Yahaya Bello collected N20bn from the Federal Government as bailout fund. Still, he refused to settle workers. He also collected N11bn from the Paris Club fund. Still, he refused to pay workers and pensioners.

“Children can no longer go to school. Tenants can no longer pay their house rent. Enough is enough, the people of Kogi State are tired of this government.

“The advent of Yahaya Bello as governor and Taofiq Isa as local government administrator in the political history of Kogi State has brought this unfortunate socio-political paradigm shift.”

Dino who expressed deep shock over the assassination attempt on his life described the situation as unfortunate, regrettable, highly disturbing and very strange to the socio-political-culture of the people of Kogi West. “In the history of Kogi West, various political gladiators have, at various times, had their differences but none had ever been escalated to the level of attempt on life.

The above photo is that of three officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps sleeping after allegedly consuming bottles of beer while on duty.

According to a Facebook user who posted the pictures, Ndubuisi, the incident happened on Thursday at Tarzan Junction, Npkor, Anambra State.

He alleged that the men drank 15 bottles of beer before sleeping off.

It was observed from the pictures four empty bottles of an alcoholic drink, and another that appeared to be sealed.

Two of the men appeared to be asleep on their chairs, while it was not clear if the third official, who backed the camera, was asleep or not.

The Sector Commander, FRSC, Anambra, Mr. Ajayi Sunday, said the command was aware of the photos, adding that the men had been identified and would face disciplinary action.

He said, “I am aware and their action is against the ethics of the corps; we won’t tolerate that. It is an administrative issue. Disciplinary action will be taken against them. They will have the opportunity to defend themselves during the process.

It was gathered that while the match was on, there was a loud noise from the transformer occasioning power outage, following which the cable landed on the roof of the viewing centre. It was gathered that the football fans were aware that the cable landed on the roof, but they were so keen on watching the match that they ignored it.

Rather than vacate the hall, they urged the owner of the centre to put on his generator, saying that there was no current in the cable that fell on the roof. Unfortunately, moments after the owner of the viewing centre switched on the generator, public power was restored and fire erupted in the building.

An eyewitness recalled that the building suddenly began to vibrate while the fire raged. In the ensuing stampede, many of the viewers escaped while many others got electrocuted.

“As their bodies got in contact with the zinc, which now had current running through it, many of them got electrocuted. That was how the problem escalated,” the eyewitness said.

A young man who identified himself simply as Innocent said: “I was inside the building when we heard the first explosion. Some of us came outside and we saw the cable that had fallen on the roof. In fact, some people were passing under the cable as they were calling the owner of the viewing centre to put on the generator so that they could continue watching the match.

“When the generator was switched on, people went inside. My saving grace was that I stood outside, waiting for the DSTV (Direct Satellite Television) to finish loading. You know that DSTV normally takes time to load when it goes off. So I stood outside for some minutes. But just as I was going inside to check if the match had restarted, I saw a close friend who had sat in front of me running out. His body touched the zinc wall and he fell to the ground.

While speaking in an exclusive interview in the last edition of Saturday Sun, the General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries, Apostle Johnson Suleman, vowed not to allow allegations made against him by his alleged side chick, Miss Stephanie Otobo, go unchallenged.
The outspoken preacher who spoke through his Media Advisor, Phrank Shaibu, in Auchi, Edo state, dismissed Otobo’s claims, and challenged her to go to court to prove all her allegations.

Here are excerpts from the chat;

How do you react to recent claims by Stephanie on her relationship with Apostle Suleman?

It is not for her to probe the wisdom of the mother in going to beg for forgiveness. The mother has done what she felt was right and we have responded to the mother’s appeal for forgiveness. Can’t you guys see the contradiction in the claim of being poisoned by Apostle? First, she claimed that the poison was given to her by Apostle in a hotel. Next she said it was in a dream. Perhaps, she would come up with another bizarre tale. Seriously, even my three -year- old daughter can do better.

She also alleged that if Apostle presents his international passport, and places it side by side her’s, it will reveal that both of them travelled together on a certain day to Canada. What do you say to this?

How do you travel with someone you have never met? It is clearly an illusion and part of her romantic fantasy. But again, if she wants to prove her case before the media, are we the ones to help her do so? Can’t she go to the airline and get a manifest on how they travelled together? Tell the world her seat number and that of Apostle Suleman. Let her get those facts and give to the press.

Besides, when a stalker is desperate, he/she can go to any length to get his/her victim’s attention. If you know the itinerary of your target, particularly a preacher whose international meetings are made public, a desperate stalker can go there in attempt to see the person. The truth is that, this is an unnecessary media trial and it is deceitful, mendaciously knavish and full of falsehood.

So, we cannot keep giving this girl this honor of coming to speak to the press and waste people’s time and waste people’s money, just because we want her to entertain the public with falsehood. Sadly, there seems to be a group of people who are well mobilized, from all indications, to ensure that Apostle Suleman is assumed guilty and stripped of all credibility even before his accuser is able to prove any of her allegations. I fear, the objective of this group is informed by anything but altruism. It’s mischief.

The bank statement showing payments Apostle Suleman allegedly made into her (Stephanie’s) account, was it forged?

I am surprised that you are even referring to the purported bank statement as genuine. Anyone can type and print a statement and call it by any name. But it cannot be called a genuine bank statement, except such a statement has been so verified by a forensic expert under the direction of a court of competent jurisdiction to so do. More so, what we had expected was evidence to buttress her initial claims of tons of dollars, Euros and the Pound Sterling being paid into her account, not the lodgment in a Naira account. Certainly, this is an afterthought, but it is not strange as Apostle Suleman engages in a lot of charity. On a daily basis, men and women come for help and he assists them.

Was Apostle Johnson Suleman sleeping with Nollywood Actor, Leo Mezie, when he paid his entire medical bill of £30,000 for kidney transplant in UK? This is what they don’t tell you. Was Apostle Suleman sleeping with the nine poor Nigerians (male and female) he gave cars to on February 5th, 2016? Was he sleeping with the 30 widows and other indigent people that he gave out millions to start their own businesses? To Johnson Suleman, giving is a lifestyle. The fact is that, we have never denied extending help to this girl.

What we actually said was that, help was extended to her based on her claimed need and her quest to stop functioning as a stripper in Canada. And there is nothing strange about that. If money was given to her to turn her life around and embrace God, it’s okay. But then, it must be noted that these so -called revelations are only an after-thought. The girl is just busy trying to manufacture weak and unsubstantiated evidence to justify her story.

Fortunately, everything she says contradicts her initial claims, thereby exposing her as a serial liar. The truth is that it’s simply preposterous to want to join issues with her, since it’s so obvious where she’s coming from. So, I don’t want to be dragged into any expanded debate with a Stephanie Otobo.

Gareth Bale’s chances of being fit for Sunday’s blockbuster La Liga clash between Real Madrid and Barcelona were boosted as he returned to training on Thursday.

The Welshman has missed Madrid’s last two games against Sporting Gijon and Bayern Munich due to a flare up of the muscles around where he suffered ligament damage in his right ankle earlier in the season.

Bale was forced off with the injury in the first leg of Madrid’s eventual 6-3 aggregate win over Bayern just over a week ago.

Therefore, Real coach Zinedine Zidane is reluctant to rush Bale back into action with the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals less than two weeks away.

“When he came back he was desperate to be involved and now he has a small niggle that is preventing him from being fully fit,” Zidane said ahead of the Bayern second leg.

Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Ibadan (UI) chapter has called on the Federal Government to scrap the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

The Chairman, Dr. Deji Omole, who spoke in Ibadan yesterday said the board has outlived its usefulness and reducing the standard of offering admission to students, hence, it must be scrapped immediately to allow universities set a new standard of admission.

Omole, who bemoaned the board for the problems being encountered by candidates to register for the examination said the nation could no longer trust the future of the younger generation to a body that failed to conduct mock examination.

“Why will anybody make life difficult for candidates whose parents are struggling to live under the terrible condition the government has made them to live in? “This is where people are duping Nigerian children. This is a total failure. Students must have at least three months for registration, its procedure must be open and their options to public universities must not be limited to serve the agenda of the proprietors of private universities”, he argued.

Russia's Supreme Court has banned the Jehovah's Witnesses from operating in the country, accepting a request from the justice ministry that the religious organization be considered an extremist group.

The court ordered the closure of the group's Russia headquarters and its 395 local chapters, as well as the seizure of its property.

The Interfax news agency on Thursday quoted Justice Ministry attorney Svetlana Borisova in court as saying that the Jehovah's Witnesses "pose a threat to the rights of the citizens, public order and public security."

A man was caught stuck inside his best friend’s wife while they were having sex.
