Nigerian government killing the economy with corruption.
Islie:
The pricing template released by PPPRA effectively shows the government has been paying fuel subsidy despite its denials.

Or rather they have been stealing billions in the name of subsidy

In 36 months that can effectively build a refinery like the mega one in Lekki and correct a lot of economic errors in Nigeria.
No leader wants to do the reasonable thing(GEJ inclusive).
Because Nigerians, even most of those that complain about subsidy, so don't want it removed.

If there was no subsidy, fuel would be costing N300 and above by now.(But our refineries would be working since they are now profitable to maintain, and fuel prices come down)

Infact, Nigeria has very cheap fuel compared to other African countries....especially in West Africa. Always has been like that.
what is difficult in building modular refineries at least.why will they take 1b$ to buy weapons.borrow billions for road. They will buy jets for killing people but find it hard to borrow money at worst to make life easier for people.
If our refineries are working.we can be selling not only crude but refined petroleum to west africa and generate money since this is our area of comparative advantage.7th highest producer of crude oil.
I don't just understand.what an individual is doing .a whole country that has access to facility that can be spread over 20 years can't.

Subsidy is still a scam, remove it and pay high pump price, which is actually best for Nigerians in the long run.
But Nigerians want to eat their cake and have it

Racoon:
"A single lie destroys a reputation built over many years." For a budding political party like the then emerging APC, they could have played opposition with caution and wisdom but not in our side of the world.

They condemned the subsidy which was of course a major source of economic wastage without any iota of rational thinking even denouncing it as a complete fraud.Just as the case with the BH insurgency, anti-corruption fight among many other things.

Fast forward to 5 years later, they are not only secretly paying(cum looting) same, but made it an official policy of government to brazenly lie to Nigerians about same.

However, the unanswered questions remains:
-1).Who approved the subsidy or alleged subsidy under-recovery funds the NNPC have been paying; the NASS or executive decision?
-2).Why is the price of petrol and other petroleum products still high despite these payments with occasional unavailability of these products.
-3).Why have the Buhari-led government been lying to Nigerians thereby insulting the sensibility of a nation they are governing?
Other questions should be:
1. What will happen if our refineries starts to work effectively
2. What will happen if the FG mandate all the multinational oil companies in Nigeria to build at least two modular refineries that will be functional within a year or leave NIGERIA
3. What would happen if FG ask companies like Julius Berger to build and manage refineries and get their money back and leave the refinery for Government
4. What would happen if oil producing states decides to build refineries and manage them
5. Finally the money used in building railways at least 30% of it should have been used in building new refineries which is what that is effecting everybody in this country.

Since October 1st 1960, we've never had a sincere Federal Government. So I wonder whether Nigeria will ever work. I hope it does anyways. If we had a booming economy considering all the natural and human resources we have, N211 per litre for PMS wouldn't be an issue. It would be considered cheap by an average Nigerian. If a sincere govt. fixes all 4 refineries, cut down on cost of governance, end subsidy and channel the funds which would have been meant for it into infrastructure development most especially power generation and distribution; this country will transform into something better within 8 years. 2023 isn't far off. Vote wisely and resist vote buying with every thing you've got! It's not just about the offices of president, governors and law makers. Even the councillor you vote for should be a good fellow. God help us all!

Buhari is a bloody corrupt man.

During Jonathan's administration, he said there was NOTHING like subsidy that it was the imagination of the PDP.

Later, he increased fuel price when he became the President claiming he wanted to remove the subsidy he earlier said was non-existent.

Now he wants to be spending fund on subsidy again.

WHO ARE THEY SUBSIDISING FOR?
Buhari said, anybody that claim to be paying subsidy is a fraud. Yet, one idiot above is acting as his mouth piece. I’m convinced that some people do enjoy suffering.

I'm surprised that people are surprised, You cannot give what you don't have. NEMO DAT QUOD NON HABET". They protested against fuel price hike, they complained about fuel subsidy, they talked about exchange rate, they pontificated on insecurity, they screamed about unemployment etc. Then they proceeded to rig the election and you fools were cheering them on. As you lay your bed so shall you lie on it. Sai Baba!!!

And the same economists would have also told him to completely remove subsides to allow the refineries to work.

Which is politically expensive.

Plus two or 3 modular refineries won't fix our fuel supply issues...we need something like 5 or 6 dangote level refineries.
Its good we start from somewhere.
$10 billion modular refineries can produce a 400,000 bpd modular refinery.

PLus he said there was nothing like subsidy simply because he did not udnerstand how a subsidy worked then.

Our budget is 26 billion dollars. Oir reserves are at 40 billion dollars. No spare ten billion available.

Plus if you build a refinery and then don't deregulate the downstream sector, in five years it would be broken down

Which high price? Do you think if the 4 refineries are operating at full capacity, we will be talking subsidy?
.Can you really subsidize the production of an item whose raw material is available locally?

Dont you see that there is a relationship between the clamour for subsidy and the refusal to fix refineries?

As long as we import fuel subsidy talk will continue, but if we produce fuel locally, we become immune to the forex problem associated with subsidies and rid ourselves of the thieves who want us to keep importing refined fuel because it benefits them.

I could remember during the GEJ the pump price was increased bcoz the govt of the day want to stop subsidy.
Now this govt pay for subsidy and price keep going up.
is there anything am missing?
Bros, they said all our woes was due to low crude pride. That was why naira lost value to dollar. Oil price thanks to God is now 70$per barrel. Other oil producing countries are rejoicing. But for we here in naija, it is a curse not blessing.
I said it earlier with these evil recessionist APC, even if if crude oil rises to $1000 per barrel, it will be more poverty for Nigerians.
I was at Shoprite Ikeja last Sunday, I shook my head in regret. The stalls are becoming empty. The the purchasing power of Nigerians have been devastated. Why do you think Shoprite left Nigeria?
Very sad. Abokis in power. Chop all today, Allah will provide tomorrow.

When we were refining fuel at home there was a subsidy in place.

NNPC sold fuel below the production price to marketers. Marketers in turn got paid an equilization fund to keep prices of transporting fuel low.

At the end of the day therw wasn't enough profit to keep the refineries running. Add the fact that NNPC workers get paid whether refinery works or not, and thus the refineries failed and we had to import

And because Nigerians don't want to pay market price for fuel, imported fuel too got subsidised.

Subsidy happens because poor Nigerians don't want to pay the actual cost of petrol. Rich Nigerians want free money. Subsidy meets their needs well well.

You have ignored the fact that crude is sold and bought at international price.
Even if all refineries come on board, this wil not guarantee cheap fuel.
USA is largest producer of crude oil and 135 working refineries, yet fuel price have risen by over 30% in the last 3 months.

The price is determined by the fluctuations in the international market.
