1) Take along a trusted mechanic to check it out before purchase, ensure the mechanic has a scanning tool.

2) Check VIN (Vehicle History), If it’s an accidental vehicle, run away!

3) Bargain for a very cheap price, because there will definitely be surprises (you cant escape it)

I have driven a Honda Accord DC 06, Accord 08 , Camry 08 and Camry 2014 in this last decade.
I maintain them well and travel regularly. But to be frank and Objective, I had more pleasurable experiences with Toyota.

The Accord range uptill 2012 are prone to leg Issues. I had my fair share of visiting mechanics even with all my carefulness and maintenance.

If you live in a posh estate or area with good roads, honda won't give you any problems. But with the state of Naija roads , better Toyota.

Honda is good for aesthetics but cannot be tasked as hard as Toyota.

If anyone tries to argue about the above ask them why are there no transport operators that uses Honda counterpart models of Toyota for commercial transportation.

Hilux vs Ridgeline
Hiace vs ??

Some will tell you that Honda Ball Joint issue is all about maintenance culture. Ask them why do you have to be conscious of being stranded whereas fake Toyota ball joints of 1,500naira can take you as far 30k kilometers while branded ones can take you more than 150k kilometers.

When the gearbox starts dealing with you don't think anyone is fighting you from the village. It's normal with Honda

It doesn't have a strong resale value like Toyota.

IN SUMMARY / "EDUCATED" ENGLISH:
Honda cars are basically good but a fairly common issue is the front lower ball joints / shaft pulling off (which can happen quite inconveniently at odd hours, or maybe while making U-turns, or at roundabouts, on expressways etc).

If you must go for the Accord, get the 2006 instead. That's the best year. 2007 has paint-peel and another issue I can't remember right now.

Have you ever heard the slogan that a Toyota drives forever. How many olden days Honda and other makes do you still see on the road.
Go to cities and remotest villages and you'd see some very old baba still rocking their Toyota Celica, Corona, Starlet, Hiace, Hilux, Cressida, Crown, Liteace, Coaster, Dinah of yester years.

Why do desert crossers and even terrorists including ISIS, ISIL, Hamas, Boko Haram etc prefer Hilux to other makes.
