Honestly I wouldn’t really mind if fuel was 500 naira to 1 liter But what is scaring me is the generators and the fuel people use to power them in this funny country Like from businesses to houses to almost everywhere you must have a generating set now imagine having to pay exorbitant prices for fuel to provide electricity because Nepa can never be trusted Imagine buying fuel for their generators for all the small businesses who have to , the hardship money that can and could have been spent on something else |

Subsidybad21:This Government is a DISASTER believe it or not. What will happen if Government mandates all the mult national oil companies in NIGERIA at least to build one good working refinery or leave the country for other that can do it. Secondly, the money invested in railway projects should have been used to build new refineries or even privatize the existing ones if Government cannot manage it. Thirdly why not remove the ban on importation of fuel so that people that have money can go into the business, instead of leaving it in the hands of few. Finally, why is our government always rush to destroy the so called illegal refineries in the creek of Niger Delta, since our government cannot refine oil. Why not bring them together, monitor their activities, support them financially and improve the quality of product refined from all those refineries and have sources of giving them crude oil to avoid bunkery and stealing of the crude oil. Believe me if it is done these people will do wonders |

Abdomox:571,500,000,000.00 cost of building the tallest building in the world. Remove subsidy and use the money to embark on building burj Khalifa in 5 months... Check how much jobs must have been created and what happens when its finally built. Nigeria govt should concentrate more on what puts the money in circulation and not say dey easing the stress by subsidizing what they siphoning. |

Subsidybad21:Just listen to yourself and ask if you are really making sense ...go to the CBN and NNPC website and download the document containing the actual price of petrol per barrel during 2011 and 2012 and you will see the actual figure instead of the 100 dollar story to sold to you people during election, and uptil this time, people like you are still stucked with this story even in the face of obvious battering of the economy. The answer is simply Jonathan saw the future and knew the nation can not continue to sustain the subsidy, that was why he even held meeting with the governors then and introduced the SUREP program to see how the effect could be cushioned, but you lots forgot governors that got billions of naira on behalf of their various states and focused on him, abused, insulted, occupied and eventually removed his government. Some of you went ahead to abuse the minister of finance then, calling her a thief, but today she is WTO director general...at last the chicken has come home roost...why can't the government of today look at sustain the dollar at an exchange rate that is reasonable while it removes the subsidy, at least to reduce the burden on the suffering masses, while concerted effort will be aggressively made to address the refineries.. but no every effect and burden is on the masses. And you lots that brought this incompetence in 2015 are still coming online to make noise....I challenge you to post relevant certified documents here when oil was sold above 100 dollars between 2010 to 2015...when Jonathan was the president let the whole world see. |

Tajbol4splend:Dumb down education and increase poverty and you will weaken the followership. This is because when you do these two you take away their ability to ask informed questions and make rightful demands, and when you do the latter you take away their ability to protest and also to vote with their heads instead of their stomach. |

Kennitrust:Their argument is that the former performed badly. It is utter foolishness to cut off your nose just because you hate how your face looks. Utter foolishness to elect someone you as a people cannot have the balls to hold responsible. They said they will also vote him out like Jonathan if he performed worse, guess what? He performed woefully but they couldn’t vote him out. The voted has become more powerful than the voter. |

samwillyco1:I agree with that. What will happen if Government mandates all the mult national oil companies in NIGERIA at least to build one good working refinery or leave the country for other that can do it.It is a good idea, and it also works only if there isn't a subsidy so that fuel can be reined profitably for the multinaitonals to be able to make enough of a profit to create jobs, maintain the refinery, and build new ones...which means fuel price increases Secondly, the money invested in railway projects should have been used to build new refineries or even privatize the existing ones if Government cannot manage it.Sorry, but we need railways. For a host of reasons. Thirdly why not remove the ban on importation of fuel so that people that have money can go into the business, instead of leaving it in the hands of few. That would work if government also in removing the ban, also removes subsides, and allows makreters to control the price, so that they can make enough of a profit to earn enough dollars to import fuel. Believe me if it is done these people will do wondersBecause many of those illicit refinereis also damage the environment, worsening the already bad environmental picture there. |

loswhite:Price of crude was $18 per barrel, value of naira was N88 to the dollar at parallel,...up from 16 per barrel, and N20 to the dollar in 1993. Also, our population then was below 100million people, and we had far less forex demand, and imported less. |

UnimkeAk:Well they are both bad. The issue for me is that neither of them had any plan to diversify the economy away from oil and to industrial production. The difference between GEJ and Buhari is that GEJ had dollars aplenty due to high oil prices to cover the cracks. Plus the economy was bad between 1983-2006 due to chronic low oil prices. |

ArcSEMPECJ:And the only way the value of the naira can go up is if we remove subsides, and allow investment in our refineries, and stop longing for cheap oil prices. If we removed subsidy we could attract trillions in investment in the petroleum industry, and save billion annually bETWEEN 2010-15 we threw away 4 trillion naira if not more on subsides, which were already unsustainable by 2013, Buhari had to pay a lot of leftover debt by 2018. And it was Southerners in charge of the economic brain. You don't want to pay higher for fuel. At least be honest about that. |
