This statement alone will make some people cry for 5 hours today and crawl here like a night owl to rant rubbish cheesy

God bless Obiano for removing the shame of Anambra being the only state with its size of economy without direct access by air! The fact they can't dismiss Anambra again as a village enclave that cannot be accessed by air pains many people! grin grin grin

Yes absolutely. Set up airport management company like actda. Also we must never hand this to federal government or concession it. It must remain as state owned. The vultures will soon start hovering around the state. This airport if done right will be second busiest in nigeria. They have done eveything right that all the big airlines in the world will want to land there. All they want to see is traffic. If the south east keys into this well. It will be mind blowing. The East and Anambra is about to have an economic boom never witnessed before. We are the biggest travellers in Nigeria. The sand around runway and taxiway must be planted with grass if not paved. We dont want a dusty airport. Landscaping should be top notch.
I agree with your submission that it should not be handed over to any tier of government in Nigeria. But after a few years of operation, it will be more efficient to concession it to a proven international airport operator. Worldwide, it has been proven that governments cannot run airports efficiently. Even in the developed countries with little public officials corruption, not to talk about Nigerian governments.

You cannot trust that you will continue to have wise state governors or efficient commissioners of works. Therefore, if the airport is concessioned to an internationally reputable organization, with a very strong contract that will clearly stipulate that they continue to invest a fixed percentage of the profit to grow the airport and update infrastructure at the facility, then you can be assured that the airport will be well maintained and will continue to grow in leaps and bounds into the future.

It is very very likely that the Enugu akanu ibiam airport will be downgraded to a local airport when the Anambra Chief Willie Obiano International Airport Umueri begins operations. My God, the level of enthusiasm among ndi Anambra elite and commoners in this airport is awesome. The airport may even attract an Air Force Base to Umueri/Aguleri. Federal agencies like customs, NCAA and immigrations will set shop in the airport. There is even prospect for an Aviation training school being set up around the vicinity. Hotels, factories, recreation parks will spring up nearby. It will be mind blowing.

In all, this terminal building promises to be one of the most beautiful in the country too!
They are obviously making great efforts to build it exactly as it appears in the prototype. I hope they will also try to replicate the car park with areas planted with flowers and palm or aesthetic trees.

Overall, the extremely high-quality delivery of this project is beyond contest. I just hope they hand the entire land area planned for the Aerotropolis as an annex to be supervised by the Awka Capital Development Authority to have a strong supervisory agency to ensure illegal markets/structures, rubbish lock-up shops, or truck parks are not allowed to spring in the area and turn it into another Ochanja. Finding a strong and credible private real-estate investor like the one doing the Awka Millenium City to sign an MOU on the Anambra Airport City project would be a great step towards getting the Aerotropolis project right and saving government funds from going into the project.

Hopefully, when the main airport access road is completed, steps will be taken to ensure landscaping with trees and road furniture such as standard road signs and street lights are installed on it. Like in the last picture below.

This is a very important point you have made there

You are very correct. Government is not a good manager of facilities. It is a common scenario all over the world. Major facilities in America and Europe are managed by the private sector

Very true. O2 Arena in London is another facility that's being managed by a private consultant

You have made some very important points. East must key into this very important international airport. The airport has got almost everything right. Runway of 3.7km by 60m with RESA and two taxi ways. This is an international best practices.

Why can't you face your cursed backward shithole state? Why are you so much concerned about Anambra that's not even your state. Aren't you worried that your state is useless, dirty, dilapidated and worthless. cheesy

Privatization is the way to go in a developed climate. We need iron grip on that airport. You dont spend money to hand it over to someone to pay you a percentage. Set up Airport management and take all the cash. Thats our IGR. The private company managing it will expatriate there funds out the country. Its simple to run this airport. We can do it. We have the human capital. What we need is the aviation fuel depot set up there by oilserve or nestoil. We also need aviation school that will traine our youth how to be mechancis for boeing airbus embraer maintainance and plane simulator that will train our future pilots. This is all exportable skills and will make Anambra get a hold of Aviation just how we did with Automobiles and spare parts. Umueri is the aviation Nnewi but major and well designed. I dont think people understand how big this is. This is the begining of opening up an economic boom not witnessed in Africa before

How far with the ICC? That to me is an important project for ndi Anambra. Imagine if Africa Movie Awards is held there or Manufacturers Association of Nigeria Annual Conference or all those Trade Shows. That conference facility could easily host over 100,000 people per year and if they are spending 100,000 each that is 10 billion inflow into the local economy. It would create lots of jobs for taxi drivers, restaurants, printing and publishing, hotels, interior decoraters, and telecommunications. It would stimulate people to invest in Anambra.

It is not like an airport where 70% of the flight ticket goes to buying jet fuel and paying for planes, 20% goes to the airline company and only 10% remains with the airport itself for operations and maintenance.

I hope they are prioritizing the ICC and also will take steps to privatize or complete the Ikenga Shopping Mall that is nearby. One thing about shopping malls near conference centers is that it encourages people to go shopping in addition to just coming for the conference itself. If the government cannot complete Ikenga they should lease it out to someone to complete it.
