Nwanne you are very correct cool

cjrane:
In all, this terminal building promises to be one of the most beautiful in the country too!
They are obviously making great efforts to build it exactly as it appears in the prototype. I hope they will also try to replicate the car park with areas planted with flowers and palm or aesthetic trees.

Overall, the extremely high-quality delivery of this project is beyond contest. I just hope they hand the entire land area planned for the Aerotropolis as an annex to be supervised by the Awka Capital Development Authority to have a strong supervisory agency to ensure illegal markets/structures, rubbish lock-up shops, or truck parks are not allowed to spring in the area and turn it into another Ochanja. Finding a strong and credible private real-estate investor like the one doing the Awka Millenium City to sign an MOU on the Anambra Airport City project would be a great step towards getting the Aerotropolis project right and saving government funds from going into the project.

Hopefully, when the main airport access road is completed, steps will be taken to ensure landscaping with trees and road furniture such as standard road signs and street lights are installed on it. Like in the last picture below.

It is very very likely that the Enugu akanu ibiam airport will be downgraded to a local airport when the Anambra Chief Willie Obiano International Airport Umueri begins operations. My God, the level of enthusiasm among ndi Anambra elite and commoners in this airport is awesome. The airport may even attract an Air Force Base to Umueri/Aguleri. Federal agencies like customs, NCAA and immigrations will set shop in the airport. There is even prospect for an Aviation training school being set up around the vicinity. Hotels, factories, recreation parks will spring up nearby. It will be mind blowing.
Nigerian Immigration is already building a facility in Igbariam closeby.

How far with the ICC? That to me is an important project for ndi Anambra. Imagine if Africa Movie Awards is held there or Manufacturers Association of Nigeria Annual Conference or all those Trade Shows. That conference facility could easily host over 100,000 people per year and if they are spending 100,000 each that is 10 billion inflow into the local economy. It would create lots of jobs for taxi drivers, restaurants, printing and publishing, hotels, interior decoraters, and telecommunications. It would stimulate people to invest in Anambra.

It is not like an airport where 70% of the flight ticket goes to buying jet fuel and paying for planes, 20% goes to the airline company and only 10% remains with the airport itself for operations and maintenance.

I hope they are prioritizing the ICC and also will take steps to privatize or complete the Ikenga Shopping Mall that is nearby. One thing about shopping malls near conference centers is that it encourages people to go shopping in addition to just coming for the conference itself. If the government cannot complete Ikenga they should lease it out to someone to complete it.

Ah negativity. You ain't seen nothing yet about what Igbo culr boys are capable of. This was the least of what is circulating on social media. There are videos of cultists cutting off the head of one of the victims. So much for Obiano’s security. On a palm Sunday!

Insecurity: NSCDC Kicks as Onitsha Indigenes Float Local Security Outfit
editorMarch 22, 2021 3:47 Am

David-Chyddy Eleke in Awka

Indigenes of Onitsha in Anambra State have reportedly floated a security outfit known as Onitsha Ado Vigilante Network to check the increasing wave of crime in the commercial city.

The traditional ruler of the Onitsha Kingdom, Obi Alfred Achebe, who unveiled the security outfit at the weekend, said there was need to keep the security of the city, especially being a commercial hub.

The monarch also unveiled branded Toyota Sienna vehicles said to have been donated by good-spirited individuals in the city to fight against insecurity in Onitsha.

The commercial city has lately fallen for criminals and hoodlums, who dispose visitors and residents alike of their belongings, even in broad daylight.

Anambra cargo airport to be ready in April, says Obiano
By NAN
27 March 2021 | 1:31 pm

Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra says the Anambra Cargo Airport in Umueri, Anambra East Local Government will be ready for use in April.
Obiano disclosed this when he led the joint committee of the National Assembly on inspection of the project on Saturday.

The governor said his administration was determined to deliver the airport in view of its enormous economic importance to the state and southeast zone and Nigeria at large.

He expressed satisfaction with the speed and quality of work at the site since January 2020 when the project started.

Obiano assured that at the end of April air operation would have started fully.

He described the airport as one with the longest runway in Nigeria with a satellite landing system to aid aircraft land any time of the day and in all weather.

“One other important thing is that this is the only airport in Nigeria that has a satellite landing system, you can confirm that from the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority.

“We did that deliberately because this is going to be one of the busiest in Africa because of the orientation of our people who are business people and travelers,“ he said.

Speaking on the technical details of the project, Mr Marcel Ifejiofor said the airport has two runways with 100 per cent erosion control which would prevent flooding during rain.

Ifejofor said it was a high-tech project with good local content, adding that it was being executed by the competent company under the supervision of some of the best consultants in the aviation sector.

“This runway has 06, 024, it has a length of 3.7klm, the width is 60 metres, 45 metres carriage way and 15 metres shoulders and the category is 4F, meaning it can take any Airbus,

“The orientation is that you can land on two sides, you can land on 06 or 024, it has category two light and satellite landing system, one-kilometer racer to take care of overrun.

“We have four grids on either side or a diversion channel to Oyi River,” he said.

In his remark, Sen. Smart Adeyemi, Chairman Senate Committee on Aviation said the airport project was viable and could compete favourably with Murtala Mohammed Airport in Lagos.

He said the National Assembly joint committee would go back and think about how the Federal Government could assist in the project.

“Aviation is key to social-economic development for any political entity, we have heard about this airport and decided to come and see for ourselves
.

“Most airports in Nigeria are not viable but they are essential, Lagos Airport contributes about 65 per cent to our aviation but I can say that next to Lagos is where we are standing,” he said.

Also speaking, Sen. Uche Ekwunife said in spite of political learning, Obiano deserved commendation for what he was doing on the airport project.

When the new Governor (hopefully, Soludo) takes office, and with the expected improvement in the states finances, he should embark on the construction of a terminal-2 within say 3 years!

Once the airport becomes operational with international passengers and cargo haulage, then a terminal 2 will naturally become a pressing need. The current terminal can then be for domestic flights only, while terminal 2 will be for international flights.

Obiano's consultants and Commissioner Marcel Ifejiofor did a great job ensuring the specification of the airport runway can handle a fully loaded B747 or A380 planes. It'll be great to see these types of airplanes below land there. Right now, only Lagos, Abuja and Kano have runways which are thick and long enough for these types of heavy planes to land. Obiano has done extremely well to give Anambra International airport the capacity to handle these types of airplanes.

I'm not so much a fan of the incumbent governor. But it's remarkable that he has already started the airport project. The argument now should shift from asking how viable it would be, to asking about the necessary facilities that could be put in place to make it more viable. The incoming administration should start from wherever this incumbent government ends. That's what continuity is all about

Anambra asks Buhari to give High National Honours to Air Peace & Innoson Motors Chairmen

The Anambra State Government has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to bestow commensurate national honours on two indigenes of the state in appreciation of their “path-changing contributions to national development”.

According to the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr C. Don Adinuba, the government made the request for the conferment of high national honours on the chairman of Air Peace, Chief Allen Onyeama, and the chief executive of Innoson Motor Manufacturing Company, Chief Innocent Chukwuma, in a letter which Governor Willie Obiano sent to President Buhari this afternoon.

Commissioner Adinuba explained that the government’s recommendation to Buhari was against the background of the second Embraer plane from which Air Peace acquired recently out of the 13 it ordered from the Brazilian manufacturer to boost its local and regional operations and the honorary doctoral degree which the University of Calabar conferred on the Innoson chairman at the weekend.

“These two gentlemen are deserving of everything in gold”, Governor Obiano wrote in the letter to the president.

“They have changed the narrative of Nigeria’s development for the better.

“The whole nation remembers with nostalgia how Chief Onyema sent his wide-bodied aircraft to South Africa two years ago to bring back free of charge hundreds of Nigerians stranded in the country when South Africans launched xenophobic attacks on our fellow countrymen”.

Chief Obiano stated that if not for Chief Onyeama’s intervention since 2014, the Nigerian civil aviation industry would have collapsed or been in a comatose state.

“He invested a fortune in it and ensured that Air Peace maintained the highest standards in the world in terms of the state of the art equipment, safety, staff training, as well as ground and in-flight services”, he said.

The governor commended the carrier for reviving and developing airports across the country like Akure Airport in Ondo State which, he noted, were practically abandoned for years.

He also praised Air Peace chairman for his decision to build a hanger for the repair and maintenance of various aircraft at Anambra International Cargo/Passenger Airport which is nearing completion and for his role in the effort to get Embraer to build its maintenance facility for the African region in the state.

“These two projects”, he argued, “will go a long way to make our airport a truly air transportation hub in Nigeria, if not the whole of West Africa, as envisaged by the government which has ensured that it is the most modern airport in the country and the airport with the longest runway in Africa.
“The world’s biggest planes can land there easily”.

Governor Obiano described the Innosson chairman as a revolutionary in the country’s quest for industrial development.

“Not even the colossal government failure to sustain motor assembly plants in Nigeria over the decades could deter this entrepreneur, who went into business with modest means as motorcycle seller, from dreaming big and building the nation’s first motor manufacturing firm.

“Only a tough-minded, visionary and patriotic Nigerian could venture into industrialization on a large scale as Chief Chukwuma has done, considering the poor state of infrastructure in the country like electric power and the high cost of funds, to say nothing about hypercometition from Western and Asian automobile multinationals.

“The constant and remarkable improvements in Innoson vehicles have added to their competitiveness; they compete on both quality and price.

“Today Innnoson motors are sold all over Nigeria and beyond, thus flying Nigeria’s flag in different countries, just like Chief Allen whose airline operates into different African countries and into the United Arab Emirates with plans to extend flights to the United Kingdom, China, India, United States, etc.

“These two Anambra sons are earning foreign exchange for the country making the whole nation proud.

“They are eminently deserving of the national highest honours for their selfless and patriotic services which will ginger them to do more and encourage other citizens to follow in their noble footsteps.”

Signed

C. Don Adinuba
Commissioner for information & Public Affairs.
