Did I Do Something Wrong To This Man? by Nobody: 7:17pm On Mar 30, 2021

On the 8th of March, 2021 I checked my NYSC dashboard and found out that I was posted to kebbi state. I was angry and scared at the same; I didn't want kebbi state. I wanted AkwaIbom state.

So, I called my friend and told him about what happened. He told me that he knows a man that help me with relocation.

I wanted to meet the man to discuss the terms and conditions with him but he did not want to see me. He directed me to meet a cook in Asaba, so I transported I and my friend to Asaba from imo state that same day to meet with the chef.

The meeting with the chef made me understand that the man we contacted wasn't even the one doing the NYSC relocation stuff. That was how, I was given a man's number, lets just call him Dee. The chef told me that the Dee worked with NYSC.

Immediately we left the chef, I dailed the man's number and explained my situation to him. He promised to help with the relocation but he urged that I should get my medical report. I wasn't comfortable with that because normally, a medical report is needed for a relocation and it is officially. I became skeptical about him. However, I got the medical report.

I asked him the cost, terms and conditions but he said that I shouldn't worry that I should ask the Chef. I did that, but she didn't tell me anything.

After registration in the camp, I sent the details he requested from me. He called later to tell me that he has done it.

I asked him for the cost, he still insisted that I should ask the chef. I called the chef severally but she would not answer.

Shockingly, in a lecture by the state cordinator, he urged us not to fall victim of scam by trying to pay people money for relocation, reposting, redeployment. He said that everything was free for corp members. He even went ahead to tell us how to apply for relocation where he told us that one can only be relocated based on three reasons and that asides that, we are only dashing people money. He also, warned that any corp member caught will be dekitted, and that the staff involved would loose his job.

Note: That same week, over 40 staff of NYSC were sent away for collecting money for relocation from corp members.

I didn't want to associate with the Dee again, however, That same day, the chef called me and told me that I am to pay 20k. I thought about that but was really scared. I asked for an account to pay into but she didn't send. I also, asked the man for his account number but he said no.

I got pissed off, I decided not to call the man. But my friend called him, he asked him for his account number but he said no.

My friend told him everything the state coordinator said and told him that we weren't interested again.

When the relocation form was shared, I and many other corp members applied.

Today (30/03/2021) being the closing of the orientation camp, I discovered that about 95% of people and myself inclusive that applied for relocation were relocated.

Around, 3pm I got a text from the man with his account number. He asked me to pay in 20k even after we told him that we weren't interested again because of what the state cordinator said.

I knew that he didn't do anything for me, but I decided to give him 10k after I must have transported myself from Kebbi to AkwaIbom and still have money from the 33k left with me.

He called me this evening telling me to send the money, I told him to chill that I will pay him after some time, but he said that since I want to eat his money that no problem and he now knows that I am a bad person.

I then decided not to pay him anything.

Biko nu am I a bad person?

I don't believe in short cut or sorting or things like that in my life. I love leaving things in God's hand. However ooooo, I believe in agreement being an agreement. Just parley with them if it ends for that 10k fine. If they insist on more negotiate with them. Na you find their trouble first.
