President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the attempted coup in Niger Republic, saying “any illegal effort to depose a democratically elected government is not only despicable, but also unacceptable to democratic governments around the world.”

Speaking in a telephone conversation with Mahamadou Issoufou, his counterpart and outgoing President on the situation in Niger Republic, President Buhari according to a statement by his media aide, Garba Shehu warned that “the international community is hostile to the change of government by violent and unconstitutional means.”

“It is utterly naive to attempt the removal of an elected government by force.

“Military political adventurers should respect the will of the people and respect constitutional order.

“I’m particularly concerned about the negative impact of coups on African stability, peace and progress.

“Nigeria cannot be indifferent to these dangers to Africa. Coups are out of fashion and the involvement of the military in violent change of government is doing more harm than good to Africa”, the President said.

The Nigerian leader urged African leaders to “remain united against coups under whatever guise or form,” warning coup plotters to learn lesson from history on the consequences of instability caused by violent takeover of governments.

President Buhari also used the occasion to congratulate the President-elect Mohamed Bazoum on his election victory and the outgoing President’s commitment to orderly and peaceful transfer of power.

The Nigerian leader also applauded the Niger’s security forces for suppressing the onslaught against the democratically elected Government of the people of Niger Republic.

Coup plotter has no right to condemn coup in another country. Buhari was part of July 1966 , 1975, and December 30, 1983 coups. Infact since buhari coup of 1983 , we no see democracy again till 1999 wey obj rule, handover to yaradua/gej and now again the same buhari is ruling. If anyone beleives I am not saying the truth, pls feel free present a verify able fact.

Nigeria is the easiest country to rule in the world, barely 24hrs after this guy left the country they’ve been almost 20deaths reported ones o, both in the south and north. Baba didn’t condemn or even acknowledge, Buhari should rule forever that’s what most Nigerians deserve.#BuhariForever

Abacha, buhari, babangida, murtala Mohamed were involved, He was killed. 1975 was against gowon. 1983 was against shagari. Now, U see y they removed history as subject? Buhari was governor of old gongola in 1975 and minister of petrol ,from 1976 to 79 then he was was not even up to 35. U can verify of u have av atom of doubt....
