They still went ahead with this kangaroo repairs!

And you wonder why the people are revolting?
You can't keep pressing them down and expect them not to scream. They scream only how they know best. Some may feel it would be loudest to scream at police stations and correctional facilities.

You steal from the masses and send your kids to better schools abroad, positioning them to take up juicy positions of authority in the government or government agencies.

Na ogun go kee allof una there!

So what do you think they should do with the refinery?

Should they leave it as it is? Or sell it...which means they have to find a buyer who would pay money for something that after buying it needs to be fixed? (Like selling a broken down car to someone who has to pay money for the car plus pay money for fixing)

Plus we would have had more money for schools and so on if we hadn't subsided fuel to the point where we spend more on subsidy than we do on education....plus subsidy means that over time the refienreis cannot work well because they don't make enough of a profit to do so...thanks to artrifically low prices brought about by subsidy.

So, the clueless government is still going ahead with this monumental wastage?
This government has really set the record as the most useless, clueless and corrupt administration since 1999.

Isn't it more of a waste to keep a non-functional refinery non-functional?

Jokes aside, it is straining our forex to be importing fuel everyday. So, fixing domestic refining is and should be a priority. Dangote isn't going to meet all our fuel needs, even at full capacity.

Has that refinery generated any revenue in the last decades?
Evaluate and sell the damn refinery and use the money for much better ventures.

Buddy, I don't know where it takes two weeks to carry out due diligence, carry out a tender process and conduct technical and financial evaluations before signing a contract for a 1 million dollar project talk less of 1bn. If this wasn't being done as a fishing expedition for illicit campaign or slush funds then they should follow due process.

We can build new refineries with the monies that have been sunk into operating and maintaining them since 1999.

Would you buy a broken down refinery , which you would have to spend money to fix again...on top of the money you spent buying it?

That's the problem

I'm very sure you have not been following this story from when it broke.
The government is not "fixing" the refinery to use, NO, they want to repair it at $1.5 billion dollars and then sell it. That's what we all are angry about. Why spend money to repair the dead metals before sale?
Why not keep the money, sell the scrap for whatever amount you can sell and add to this amount you want to spend, then use it to start a.new one? Haven't you heard about the the bird in hand worth millions in the bush? Knowing the kind of country we have, the contractors would most definitely abandon the project, after the $1.5 billion dollars have been appropriated. Isn't that waste of resources?

Please don't start me with that subsidy stuff. I remember back in 2012 when the previous government, advised by the current WTO Chairman wanted to remove subsidy, Buhari said there is nothing called subsidy. The videos are out there for everyone to see. Therefore, you can't claim to be removing what doesn't exist.

Heck, even if subsidy did exist, how do you hope to further impoverished the common man when all politicians get fuel for free? How can the common man benefit from the corruption going on?

In Buhari's word, "anybody that tells you that he is removing subsidy, it is praud, nothing like subsidy"
