President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday explained how Usman Alkali Baba was appointed as acting Inspector-General of Police.

The president was fielding questions from State House correspondents on his arrival from London after a routine medical check-up.

The president said due process was strictly followed in the selection of the new IGP.

He said: “Well, we went through the system. There was a committee by the Minister of Police Affairs, they gave me some names and he happened to be the one chosen.

“He knows his job, he has been in it for a long time, he went through all the trainings; he has the necessary experience. So, we have a high expectation from him.”

Buhari again challenged the new service chiefs and the acting IGP to work diligently towards meeting the expectations of Nigerians

“Oh yes, they (service chiefs) have been in the system all the way, they know what is wrong, they know what is right and I think they are doing their best. I hope their best will be good enough for Nigeria,” the president said.

Speaking earlier on his arrival at the airport, Buhari had said his medical check-up in London “went very well”.

On what Nigerians should expect from his administration going forward after a well-deserved rest in.

We know for sure that due process was followed, well meaning Nigerians know this fact, only the children of hate and perdition are thinking otherwise, they are always ready to heat up the polity and cause chaos everywhere they go. Surprisingly they can't just move on from their 2015 loss at the polls.

Due process was followed yet the VP wasn’t briefed, he was on a journey to owerri with the ex IGP, before he was sacked. That is an insult to the VP.

Anything short of the prescription of the law is not due process. The law states that the a new IGP must have at least 4 years left to serve, this acting IGP does not have that, therefore this is not due process but something else.
