Nairaland carrying last as usual. About six weeks into the show is when an official thread surfaces. That other show already has five official threads a full month before a new season.

That interior decor guy of last night. I was pained the way the rubbishes and made fun of him

Also that girl that begged for one more chance, if she had sang that song during her first chance , they would have allowed her. But DJ sose told her "NO" because it would have been somehow and look like cheating on others if he gave her a second chance and said "yes". It's simple psychology.
If you are a friend to the Interior Decoy guy, would you have advised him to go for the competition?
The girl that begged for another chance was told initially she had an option to change to something more comfortable.

It amazes me the way people who know next to nothing have suddenly turned to judges in music on Nairaland.

One thing I know is, this thread will soon turn to SHEYI favored Yoruba AND OBI favored IBO.

Alas! I've got a very sensible person here! God bless you. Many ppl do not even watch the show but are quick to judge the judges.

The show is a franchise, modelled after American Idols (which I'm sure many ppl have never watched). They have never heard of the name "Simon Cowell" who's the harshest judge ever (IMO)

It's the judges' job to select the best of the best albeit in a harsh way. If you can't sing, don't go near NI!

Kudos to Seyi, Obi and Sosey!

Although I have defended the judges against backlash and criticism countless time, I have come to noticed that they themselves aren't skilled enough in their task. This isn't about the judge in real sense but a general shortcoming in Nigerian music industry. Majority of those who take the exalted table are just talented or successful people in the industry. They are not professional capable of delivering excellently in music critique. Many of them don't know the do re mi of music but are charged with judging people talent and their varying musical gift.

I'm saying this after observing their parochial view on some abilities. If a performer doesn't possess a thin singing voice in auto or soprano, it never sound good enough to the judges. A guy came around yesterday, or two days ago, I don't know cos what I see are a replayed transmission. This young man who claim to be inspired by Akon didn't give a rendition of popular song. He delivered a song he made by himself. His song was so nice and creative with good lyric. You could even see it in the judge how enthralled they were when listening to him. But his failing, according to what the panel assessment implies is that he didn't possess a thin soprano voice. By my assessment, that guy was a tenor singer, and his style go perfectly with it. Meanwhile, the judges hinted on his 'not-so-good' voice as his major limitations and advised him to improve on it. They even attested to his song writting skill but all concluded he isn't good enough vocally. What a load of trash. Must every singer be gifted with alto or soprano?. What about singer with deep baritone voice? The problem with the judge is that they aren't schooled enough in the business of music.

oh please Simon Cowell owns AGT and BGT , don't compare him to this trash on Nigerian idol.there is difference btw constructive criticism and harshness.have watched American idol, agt, bgt, the voice Nigeria,USA, Germany, Australia,Ukraine etc.and let me tell me Nigeria idol is wack.dj sose and obi asika can't even take a simple opinion without seyi Shay input.
Seyi Shay is harsh, rude and don't even Know how to criticize.before u compare them to Simon Cowell.simon Cowell is honest and blunt.alot of contestants comes back just to hear what Simon has to say to them.
I rather watch the voice Nigeria where we have darey, yemi, waje and falz than one rubbish idol.
Seyi Shay need to learn from darey, yemi or waje

Lol...is not an excuse for seyi Shay attitude on the show.
She needs to learn how to criticize and advise and stop sounding like she is the almighty on the show.then for obi and sose, they need to know how to take an opinion without waiting for seyi Shay inputs.
Season 6 is trash.

You need to understand that Seyi Shay's harshness is deliberately scripted to create controversy which engages the public. That has always been Nigerian Idol's M.O. Remember Dede Mabiaku who also used to "skin contestants alive" during Idols 2007.

Simon Cowell was also rude. Back in 2005, he told Jennifer Hudson on American Idols "You look like a turkey rapped in a bale of cloth" in reference to her plump not-so-sexy figure. J.Hudson is now a global star, but that has not diminished Simon.

It's a selling point for the Idols franchise, to have a rude blunt judge and other more agreeable ones.

The judges sha, Obi go say “ it looks like there’s something there”, in my opinion they should have gone for professional music inclined judges mostly.

Joshua sang Dj Neptune's Nobody song while he was playing his acoustic guitar.

I concur with you on Faith's chances of getting to the top 10.

I think you have comprehension problems.. I'm not supporting his performance. He didn't do well no doubt but I don't like the way they rubished him. They made him feel less of a human. Seyi was even like "God forgive me I couldn't even look at him in the eye".

exactly, some of these people condemning the judges are analytically deformed.

The lady messed up her performance simple. She was changing key anyhow haba!

Although the judges criticism seems to be kind of one pattern.

They should bring more technical aspects and componet into their criticism of the contestants performance to make it more varied and interesting.

I just hope that the judges are reading this comment.

That guy could not sing at all although he is a good songwriter and the judges commended him for that and encouraged him to pursue a career in songwriting. Nigerian idol is a singing competition so vocals is the most important criteria. The judges never said anything about him not having a soprano voice.
