My assessment of the 3 judges is as follows:

Seyi Shay: She is actually the most competent of the lot as much as she is the most vilified. Also, she is very open regarding her thoughts and on the rare occasion where she says yes to a contestant because of bias, she actually owns up to the bias i.e looks, personality etc. However, her cynical laughs while contestants were performing during the earlier phase of the auditions were very unprofessional. She improved on this as the show wore on. She could also learn the art of not using absolute terms to describe unsuccessful contestants cos she doesn't know the future e.g you can NEVER make money by singing.

Obi Asika: I like him the most cos of his mature amiable demeanour. But he never seemed to have his own opinion. Always deferring to Seyi or Sose. Heard "like Seyi said, Like Sose said" thousands of times from him already. It's sickening. "There's a voice or something in there somehow, but like Seyi said.." Dammit! Own up to your own thoughts man. But he improved a bit in this area during the last session.

DJ Sose: This guy successfully deceived me into thinking he knew about the technical aspect of music. As the show wore on it became obvious that he was a rookie. I've seen many a technically bad vocal performance, and you'd see Sose nodding his head along sweetly in approval. Then when Seyi blurts out the catastrophic aspects of the song, Mr Sose will then change tune to "Hmmm..You've got some lungs in there, but you're not Idol material" Biko are you a tailor?

He wasn't. Seems he sent educated plus life has dealt him hard. I know many people that look and talk like that.

The guy was a real security risk judging by his high looks. I genuinely felt afraid for the judges while he was performing. Looked like someone that could pull a gun on them.

That guy could not sing at all although he is a good songwriter and the judges commended him for that and encouraged him to pursue a career in songwriting. Nigerian idol is a singing competition so vocals is the most important criteria. The judges never said anything about him not having a soprano voice.

You might be mistaken the guy I saw for another person. I doubt it more so when you said he couldn't sing at all. On the contrary, his singing is excellent. The only problem he has with the judge is the degree of huskiness in his voice. He is a tenor singer and he delivered perfectly. I didn't accuse the judge of condemning him for being anything less than a soprano, what I mean is that their criticism of his voice is an indication that they don't fancy any other voice type except an alto or soprano

The part that hurts me most is the contestants.

They're letting words, mere words of the judges get to them.
They could enter studio today and blow up.

Of all the blown artists in nigeria today, less than ten percent of them would be able to get the golden ticket of nigeria idol if they're in the position.

But people have different tones, different lyrics etc.

Bella schmurda would be laughed off at nigeria idol, even davido.

But see them today.

seyi shay...shes too blunt, brutal and harsh. she dey overdo undecided .thumbs down

obi Asika...kind guy. the lenient one. but sometimes a copycat on the other judges

dj sose.. the contestants dey try as them dey look him face dey sing. hes a bit brutal too but great music analyst

ik osadiuwa ...my guy. good vibes

as for that girl that left her job. that bouncer that took her off for just flog her before she go house grin

but tbh the kind of singers they are looking for wouldnt sell in nigeria. show should have been a but flexible. and many of the contestants turned down shouldnt think that's the end. see davido and olamide. voice not too good but they're at the top.

Do you mean tenor?.Most men are tenor singers.Almost all the guys they gave a golden ticket are tenors.Nobody looks for a soprano singing voice from a man which is very rare.

That interior decor guy of last night. I was pained the way the rubbishes and made fun of him

Also that girl that begged for one more chance, if she had sang that song during her first chance , they would have allowed her. But DJ sose told her "NO" because it would have been somehow and look like cheating on others if he gave her a second chance and said "yes". It's simple psychology.

I have watch britain's got talent, the judge observed the guy was nervous when he was singing.
she simply told him to calm himself down and try the song again.
and wow did he blow both the crowd, me and the judges.

nigerian idol judges are unprofessional and not worth it cuz non of them are even the best or among the top 3 in their field.
like what achievement does sheyi shay, soso and co have to their name.

I mean when you make someone a judge the person has made a name in the entertainment industry.

alfredilly that guy you're talking about, if you listen to country music, you'll understand that voice was perfect. If I was among the Judges he would have gotten a yes.. perfect for country music.

Voice are imitated. Few guys on the show dwell on their natural singing voice. This is more affirmed by the fact that they gave a rendition of popular music. They might be in the natural tenor but often strain their voice to attain a thin, high pitch one. It tend mostly towards an alto.

Idols is better than the voice this year. The voice judges so far are acting biased, hopefully things get better

I'm sure you don't really mean that comment. How can?

The voice is so clear ahead in quality of contestants, judges and even the stage. Case in point the Deloye guy that was rejected on the Voice was chosen subsequently on Idols. I am sure that almost all the contestants that the Voice judges did not turn for or pick would have made it through on Nigerian Idols.

The only area where Idols is better than Voice is in providing comical relief, which it has in abundance.

The judges are also being too sentimental towards those that are backing up their performance with guitar and keyboard. Some of those peeps who got a NO would have definitely been given a YES if they used a guitar/keyboard.

A guitar and a keyboard makes a song sound appealing and sweet no matter how bad it is.

It is called falsetto. They do not strain their voice it is part of the singing register which include chest voice, head voice, mixed voice and some people that have the whistle register.Alto is not really used as a term to describe vocal type it mostly use in choral setting. The right word is contralto and that is a female voice type.

U are very correct and also very observant, they're somehow biased towards contestants performing with instruments. Perhaps this is what is making the judges themselves to incur negative reviews from fans

Please judges pay more attention to singers that are not using instruments. They have alot to offer.

Your opinion. It's the first stage of idols and they are not using very strict criteria. But in terms of judges being baised and sentimental, the voices judges have those in abundance

Spot on though. I don't like the way Seyi out rightly tells people they can't make it in music and I don't think Sose should be on that seat. True Obi doesn't have an opinion of his own. If you ask me though I would say sometimes they just say yes to whatever Sose says.

I concur with you on Faith's chances of getting to the top 10.

Talking about Faith, most people don't know that she's a sibling to Naomi, the first runner up of season 1. She wants to coman collect it for the family this time around cheesy

I feel this is wrong, playing and singing at same time is very difficult, and to be honest most of those guys playing with instruments sang very well!! take the guy who sang DJ Neptune"Nobody" for instance.
Not everyone who sang with an instrument was given a ticket.

the judges are not bad as people say.

If the Nigerian Judges did a good job of actual judging musical talent, trust me their 'harsh side' would not have been as amplified as it is.

They have failed time without number to make objective judgement. You can't even compare them to the calibre of judges Project Fame had. Project Fame attracted more serious contestants too.

Case in point, how will you claim to be a judge and vote a yes for a contestant simply because you're 'feeling spicy' (in Seyi Shay's words) ? Isn't judgement supposed to be on what you hear at the moment, not how you feel or what you think will happen in the future?
