Why are you dribbling backward to your own goal post? grin

You said Ontario’s GDP is greater than the whole Nigeria and still having to compare the same Ontario GDP to that of Lagos which is a subset of Nigeria cry
Ontario's GDP is greater than that of Nigeria - fact

You then argue that Ontario is center of economic activity and made comparisons with Lagos. I compare Ontario and Lagos GDPs and Ontario still wins.

So Ontario beat both nigeria as a whole and Lagos in particular. What a shame!!

And for the colonial apologists, Ontario was colonized by both Britain and France and multiple wars were fought often involving US. and today Ontario is more advanced than Nigeria - what a shame

Market size is the number of potential buyer, not just buyers needed to generate revenue.

Nigeria has large population, but is the population rich enough to create large market size?

Op, the reason why Ontario's(Canada) GDP is higher than that of Nigeria is simply because most of Canadians export are mainly Capital products unlike raw materials that is mainly Nigeria's export.

Capital products yields more value than raw materials in the international market and as such commands higher price.

Basic economics 101.

It's because of laziness, inefficiency et al that Nigeria can't export finished products according to your thesis; still shameful that a country of jusr 36m exports finished or capital products while a country of 200m cant. This is why even train Lagos to ibadan is imported

Corruption is the bane of economic growth and development in Nigeria and sub Saharan Africa at large. Unless we kill corruption, Nigeria will continue to wallow in economic doldrums.

In Nigeria, they termed the North educationally disadvantaged region but this same region has most of its people heading over 75% of all government agencies.

Until people like you get it into your thick skulls that AFRICA was designated over 200 years ago as the source of raw materials for the west's industries, and that manufacturing for export (which is what makes countries rich) has been discouraged by sky high tariffs charged all over the world for African manufactured goods, you will keep typing IGNORANT RUBBISH.

Go and manufacture in Nigeria stuff they manufacture in Canada, and try shipping it to Germany or the UK to sell, the way Canada does with ease, and see how well you will do.

It is easy to sit on your computer typing rubbish and pointing fingers. Why don't YOU go into manufacturing and exportation of finished goods from Africa, and let us see how well you do? See all the multiple barriers you will come up against.

You don't know that firms have tried that since before your great grandfather was born, to no success, which is why it makes more economic sense to export raw materials, a less lucrative activity?

But no, according your thick skull, we just do that because we are too ''lazy'' and I guess ''stupid'', to not know as much as ALL-KNOWING you.

Nigeria is building a train/coach manufacturing plant in Kajola, Ogun state, that will employ 5,000 Nigerians on completion and supply Nigerian and African railways with trains.

If you had a working brain actually interested in the nation's progress, you would know this.

But you get an orgasm from blaming everyone else and pointing fingers, so you'd rather know nothing.

It is YOU that is lazy, which is why YOU have not set up any manufacturing facility even in your backyard.

Depending on what goods you are talking about obvious and it's not only purchasing power that affects that religion n culture too affects that

Northern Nigeria has large population , enough purchasing power but the potential buyers for beer is small same with pork

GDP is based on the ability of the Citizens to convert the human, land and natural resources of a place to goods and services.

The major makets in Canada is centered in Ontario. So you expect a province which controls the vast land (over 9million square kilometers) and 2nd largest landmass on earth not to exceed that of Nigeria.

Ontario Province in Canada is just like Lagos State in Nigeria. More like the commercial capitals of the two countries
Israel has a landmass almost the size of Delta state, with a population slightly above that of Delta and Edo, yet Israel's output is 20x greater than the entire nation.

Accept the fact, Nigeria isn't a productive nation, infact, African nations aren't productive. We must learn to look inwardly and stop the blame game.

Nigeria is greatly underdeveloped because over the past few decades, we have refused to work on other sectors of the economy, we import basically everything, we give excuse for failure.

Until we tackle the problem from the root, tiny European/American cities will continue to have a bigger GDP

They have industries...which is something we don't have.
They also have a tax to GDP ratio of 33.5 versus our 6 percent. They have a well funded basic education and healthcare system that produces productive people who do not look for quick ways of making money.

They probably don't practice price controls, which means more investment gets attracted
They do. They give farmers agricultural subsidies which do not increase the efficiency (productivity) of the farmers. The goal of the subsidies is to keep farmers working because not every person can be a computer programmer or an astronaut.

Maintaining social cohesion and reducing inequality is also a goal of governments.

PS.

Which is why we have to improve our tax to gdp ratio....which this government was supposed to do with Fowler, who did not work as advertised..

Maintaining social cohesion and reducing inequality is also a goal of governments
And they can afford subsides because they have a diversified economy, and they have a high income from a higher tax to gdp ratio.

You have low iq. If you didnt you would have known that high tariff is all the more reason why Africa should have industries and trade among African member states just the same way US States trade among themselves Florida sells orange juice to new york and Kansas sells wheat to other states. But the dull Africans are too dull, greedy and divided to figure out they can trade among themselves without exporting to Europe....

The cursed African race has also been too dull to industrialize itself.... always waiting for its senior brothers China and Europe to do the industrialization for them. Lazy animals.

Next you will play the colonization card. Lazy scum.

My guy, Nigerians are not lazy, we are greedy and ignorant but are very motivated to succeed, that is why we are the best performing immigrants in many developed countries.

Our problem is if you leave us to manage our own affairs, our greed and ignorance to how the world works will always lead to our downfall.

Side story

My generator was bad, so I asked around for a repair person. I called and when the repair person showed up, he looked so young (may be 14 years), that I did not believe he could do the job.

This teenager proceeded to breakdown the generator engine, and asked that I purchase certain parts. He fixed my generator in no time.

In most developed societies, that teenager would either become a top manager at an engineering firm, or may be even start his own business. Why, because he would have gotten the formal education to match with the practical knowledge he probably learned from his parents.
Here in Nigeria, chances are that he would live a life no much better than his parents.

This true life story illustrates why Nigeria as it is presently constructed will never become industrialized.

We assume the government is supposed to lead the way to industrialization ( central planning) but this has never worked anywhere cause governments are not good at allocating resources and answering the basic economic problems of who to produce, for whom to produce and how much to produce.

The Government's role should simply be creating a level playing ground for all its young people irrespective of the incomes of parents. Without a well funded basic education system, no country can progress be it capitalist America or socialist China.

Because of our greed and ignorance we only care for our own children not realizing that other children may be the creators of jobs for ours, if these kids are giving the right education.

I agree with you that the average Nigerian is not lazy and is hardworking but the motivation for that hardwork is not for the greater good of the community - its so they can be "big boys", drive big cars, oppress their neighbors with material things; of course there are exceptions like the enlightened ones but the vast majority are like that.
Thanks for your inputs.
