Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, Shiekh Ahmad Gumi has disclosed that bandits use proceeds from kidnapping to purchase arms and settle informants.

Gumi disclosed this while dismissing claims that government officials and the elites are behind the increased activities of banditry in the North.

Speaking with DAILY POST, the cleric also disclosed that bandits are fighting an ethnic and not ideological war.

He said: “That was a small metamorphosis in the process, but now the bulk of the money they collect is used to buy weapons.

Bandits are independent now, and nobody influences them.

In fact, they buy informants now, and they are fighting an ethnic war which makes it easier because they are not fighting for ideology.”

Gumi also maintained that the current state of insecurity cannot paralyze Nigeria.

He pointed out that the number of those involved in banditry and kidnapping are small when compared to the population of Nigeria.

“There is a high state of insecurity, but it has not reached the state where it will paralyse Nigeria.

We still travel around despite more frequent and sporadic attacks.

“The issue has not got to the stage of paralysing Nigeria.

The active people involved are few, and I do not think they are more than 10, 000 actively engaged in kidnapping among the herdsmen,” he said.

He further urged the Federal Government to engage these bandits in a roundtable discussion with the view of ending the menace.

“Government should do the right thing, and honestly speaking, Nigerians have to swallow these bitter pills which is getting these people on a table and set in place a machinery to rehabilitate them,” Gumi said.

Maybe the DSS is not current with the recent happenings in the country. Because the country is already deep in anarchy and those that caused it are in Aso rock supporting Killer herdsmen, sympathize with Boko Haram, other Jihadists, releasing them without trial while paying huge money to Bandits. Meanwhile, the victims are in IDP camps without plans for compensation. They should have good intelligent network to know all these and be responsive. These kind of threats reduces their capacity.

For real? They way Gumi pampers this bandit, am beginning to think he is an informant for them. He talks about them as if the atrocities they commit is justifiable.

Few people are killing the citizens for fun and even the Government seems not to be doing anything about it, we should seek for International help if our NA can't do anything to stop these daily killings and abduction. It's not necessarily American or British troops come to our soil, they can't provide us wat winning tools like chinook helicopters that can shoot an enemy from 50-100km without missing the target, There are other drones that can see enemy during the night and give our military basic information about the action of these people in the forest but trying to move around on the same spot won't solve any issues, At this critical time I expect drones to full all the 36 states and helicopters doing some surveillance but nothing reasonable are been done. All hands must be on deck to solve this issues, Bandits vows to kill remaining abducted students if payment were not made and we av not heard any effort from both Kaduna Government and FG, it's quite shameful.
