No, no, no.
Life imprisonment is too extreme.
The LASG must be careful not to base judgement on public outcry or a need to appear politically correct.

Besides, I'm sceptical believing the performance of a girl on camera who was coached by actresses and CCTV installers on what to do. There was no genuine show of naivety but a deliberate aim to lure and appear the victim.
A part of me thinks if the cameras weren't there, Baba Ijesha might have been the victim.
His words to her in that video even confirm this possibility.

A few month's sentence plus an indelible record on the sex offenders register is just ideal.

Lies. I don't know why some Nigerians behave like illiterates. Initially, the news reported that baba ijesha raped a minor and the whole of the social media went agog. The story later changed to...baba ijesha defiled a minor. After we watched the video, there was nothing close to rape, neither did he force the girl. The girl was seen throwing herself at him...no incidence of force.

That said, I see the whole stuff as set up. Both baba ijesha and Princess with her sympathisers need to be punished. There's more to it than meets the eye. I hope the judiciary would do the needful by enterning into an indepth investigation into this matter. I suspect betrayal in the whole case between Princess and baba ijesha...they may have had something in common in the past.

Baba ijesha deserves to be punished, including those crying more than the bereaved.

Your argument is not sound nor valid at all.
Abi una no study logic & philosophy for school at all??

You wey write am know sef., it would have even made a little more sense if you had said, "what about all those men in the North that roam the streets devouring children and teenagers in the name of marriage..."

But then even if you said that the argument would be sound but not valid in that particular context. There's a reason people hire the services of a lawyer in court.

And the same reason is why arguing with people just for fun is a total waste of time because na so so nonsensical points dem donde raise

Okay I just hate schooling dummies on Nairaland because it's pointless but then I have a feeling this will hit FP so I'll just make my point known.

Firstly, sleeping with a minor (people below the statutory age range) is considered 'child rape' even if the child responded positively to your advances.

Secondly, it's okay for the sentence to be affected by the public outcry because the jury and the judge are human. Which is why the R-Kelly case was postponed for almost a decade so that people's emotions about the cases and the victims are all grown up. So perception changed.

3rdly, if this was a muslim community where Sharia law exists Baba Ijesha will just marry this girl and everybody go rest. My question now is, does the customary laws supercede the state laws in this country?? because I don't even understand why some people have to be judged for a particular crime while some other tribes are given a free-pass to the same crime?

Lots of Nigerian lawmakers and public office holders from the North have kids as spouses and I don't see any law holding them back

This isn't even tribal because the Virgin Mary was also said to be betrothed off at a very early age but then it's an invalid argument

I agree with some of your submissions. Unfortunately, the sharia law takes preference in the north which doesn't mostly favour minors. The lawyers, including Princess' had said there was nothing like rape in the video seen rather, it's called a defilement. My concern is, I don't know why a sizeable number of Nigerians behave as if they never went to school on social media. Education isn't only when you attended a university.

At the end of this saga, baba Ijesha would be sentence with an option of fine and 2 surety like sum. He will then become more popular in movie industry like never before.

That short clip and princess claim that he defile the girl 7 years ago withiout any concrete evidence is not enough to send him to jail.
