Black Thursday As Gunmen Attack Anambra Station, Killed 2 Police, Freed Detainee by Manamana(op): 2:10pm On May 06, 2021

Gunmen have reportedly attacked Obosi police station in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State on Wednesday night, killings two police officers and set free all detainees in the cell.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that the attack happened barely 24 hours after the newly posted Commissioner of Police to the state, CP Christopher Adetokumbo Owolabi, assumed office.

A reliable source within the affected police station confided in journalists that the gunmen in their large number had stormed and attacked the station at about 11pm to 12am last night, leaving two police inspectors dead, while all the suspects in the cell were freed before razing down the police station.

It was gathered also that the victims were killed inside a non-functional filling station close to the police station when the murdered officers were trying to repel the unknown gunmen from gaining entrance to the station.

The sources continued that when other police officers on duty had noticed the unusual movement of the gunmen, the officers took to their heels while the gunmen had a free time burning down the police station.

When contacted, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, via telephone while confirming the incident said the Commissioner of Police, CP Owolabi, had sent an investigative team to the scene of the incident to unravel the circumstances behind the attack and to get the perpetrators arrested.
