There was chaos in Jos, Plateau state, yesterday when irate youths of Abattoir, Jos South LGA, stormed Abattoir police station, demanding that a Lebanese man who allegedly used girls as little as 10 to make porn videos should be handed to them.

When the police couldn't account for the suspect's whereabout, the youths got angry and almost attacked the station.

The suspect is known in the community, but members of the community turned a blind eye to his atrocities because his previous victims were consenting adults. It's alleged that the Lebanese man who has lived in Abattoir for over 20 years made porn videos with married women in the past. He is said to sell the porn videos in other countries. Then he stopped using married women and went for mature, single ladies. Luck ran out on him when he decided to use underaged girls.

Some parents raised an alarm when they they traced their missing daughters to his house. He was arrested and detained, but was allegedly granted bail and he fled the country. Granting him bail got the youths angry, hence the angry reaction.

The suspect is said to have forced the little girls to have sex with his dogs while he filmed.

This has been going on for decades.

Under military rule it was hidden in the last 2 streets in Obalende because the Presidency was nearby. They were often raided by the police, but were usually released days later.

They moved to Obalende Road after the Presidency moved to Abuja and it became an open show of nonsense. There was a day, c2006, that I happened to pass Obalende Road around 7pm and I was shocked at what I saw. The girls in the 1980s were usually around 20 years old, but when I passed there that day in 2006, the oldest girl I saw could not be older than 15. It was horrible! The girls were between the ages of 11 and 15!


The Fashola Administration raided the place and the girls disappeared for many months. They later came back, but instead of standing on the road they took over a large compound on Obalende Road and did their rubbish inside the compound. NAPTIP raided the place again and it seemed like they had finally been dislodged, but I suspect that they've found a way to return. They always do.

Yeah... there is a way exactly like that. The Nordic model. It targets the buyers, pimps and traffickers themselves. I don't know about it working in Nigeria, though. I don't think- scratch that- I know full legalization or criminalization would never work.
