IS HAPPINESS A CHOICE?

I have heard some people say that happiness is a choice. But how true and accurate is that statement?

I am asking because I think that happiness is a form of an emotion like sadness, anger and fear that are largely determined by circumstances.

Saying that happiness is a choice is making it seem like we have a control panel in our mind with which we are supposed to use to decide whether to be happy or not.

What are your thoughts on this?

Joy is a fruit of the holy Spirit..ask him for it and see how u are joyful in season and out of season

In Nigeria, it is a sin.

It is kind of a choice because we all heard that God Cursed the earth and that the only way to escape the Curse is to Follow Him, which is your choice.

So you choose to not follow Him means you choose to remain in the Curse of hardship and sorrow!

Real happiness differs from timely feelings which often comes and goes with passing events, different situations leads to changes in mood but sadness is rooted in the heart and it can only be uprooted when you have the TRUTH in you.
It's only when you have the truth that lasting happiness will be rooted as in firmly established in your heart.
Note that all humans want good things in life so the happy man feels contented always counting his blessings (little or much as it may seem) this makes him ever joyful. Matthew 6:22-23
But the sad person always thinks about what he lacks thereby living him always in wants so do you think he can ever be happy for real? 1Timothy 6:9-10

Op, the happiness you might be referring to is the temporary kind. E.g enjoying marriage with a good wife, having lots of money, having a sense of fulfillment etc But the real happiness that is more important is deeper than that and that involves a choice. Jehovah God who created humans is a happy God.(I Timothy 1:11). He created us with the capacity to be happy. But Satan came and distorted the process and humans lost the real happiness. So to regain it, humans need to satisfy their spiritual needs by looking up to God for direction.

I also believe happiness, as we typically know of it, are chemical signals in the human brain. However, for those who are able to gain control over their emotion centre, they find that their emotions can be, to an extent ,tuned to serve one's purpose.

Is controlled happiness true happiness? Am I truly happy when I choose to be happy instead of sad? Not really... it just means I am able to create an illusion to help me cope or deal. This ability does come with consequences, I might add.

You don't choose to be happy or not.


It just happens when you just get exposed to things that just exist.


If you say you choose to be happy,then you are wrong.
If you say you choose to be sad,then you are wrong.
