Good profession in a good country but not in abnormal country called Nigeria because you might not be able to put food on table for your family.

Write articles and share it on social media platforms. Comment on political events with clear views not being in the middle. Be consistent in your writing . Gradually you will be known and will get followers who share your thoughts. With time you may be given opportunity in mainstream media.

It is very easy op.Number one for boldly coming out to say you want to become a political analyst,you are already on the right course because it is not easy o to see Bankng,accountancy, even politics itself and shun them for political analyst That means you get mind.

To become popular in your chosen field,always go against the popular opinions.When the masses support something you violently reject it ask the BMC they will tell you it isn't easy but it is worth it.

Truly people will drag you and focus on you to yab you.Just grow thick skins like zombie and stupidly sticks to your gun.

Log in nairaland 365 days in a year, 24 hours in a day 7 days in a week. Just do it for 5 years only you will graduate with Amebo degree.

1. Write articles in newspapers and on online sites like SR, PT, The Cable etc. I started writing in newspapers since my 200L in school and today I have over 100 articles in newspapers, half of which are on politics
2. Read wide - national and global news, as well as books of history. You need to be current and be versed in history - enriches your writings
3. Be active on social media. Express your views. Facebook is easier, but Twitter gets you name more easily but tougher to "break into"
4. Avoid rigid views - be balanced, introduce nuances, make sure your views are informed, not pedestrian Nairaland views
5. If you do these, in few years, you make a name and you start getting invite by TV stations to come and speak.


I don't like to address myself as a political analyst, but I did the above and I regularly get invited to speak on TV stations (I turn down most).

Look for political analysts that you admire. Follow their work religiously and follow them on LinkedIn

1. Pick a political ideology and stick to it. (This would allow you see and interpret that of others)
2. Research politics especially geopolitics as most analysts I've heard from sound like beer parlour and newspaper stand commentators.
3. Don't pick anything politics from Nairaland or Twitter; get your news from non biased sources like the Guardian (UK), DW and AP
4. Read about the political history of Nigeria (plus the military regimes)
5. Don't let nobody discourage you.
6. Research, read widely, research some more and ask questions objectively.
7. Never see anything through ethnic lens (nah how we end up where we dey so)

However, I don't subscribe to politics. It's a cankerworm to society.

But if I did, I'll take the advice above— well except for the requirement of sticking to an ideology.
Never stick to any man made ideology. They'll almost all flawed. Consider changing your mind when the Counter argument is overwhelmingly reasonable.

listen to those old men that are always arguing about politics.

filter out the clutter and retain the compelling arguments.

go home.

open a blog or a Medium account.

type out every logical (or if you want to get famous faster, controversial) argument you heard at the newspaper stand.

make the necessary edits and meticulously research the article.

publish online and grow your audience.

also, at the end of each article; don't forget to put your name and the title: Political Analyst

The only one way of becoming a political analyst is becoming a political scientist, anything else, you are not different from all the rookies of nairaland , it's same reason every one in Nigeria think they know politics but look at our political landscape, ...does it look like it's manage properly?

Listen to Radio and TV political discuss and always be ready to contribute with informed opinion, become a regular caller, and build friendship with the presenters. Once they get to know you , then ask for an invite for their live broadcast as a guest analyst, before you know it your stock will rise. I did that with football
