The Cameroon national football team, (French: Équipe nationale du camerounaise de football) has qualified seven times for the FIFA World Cup, more than any other African team (in 1982, 1990, 1994, 1998, 2002, 2010 and 2014).

However, the team has only made it once out of the group stage. They were the first African team to reach the quarter-final of the FIFA World Cup in 1990, losing to England in extra time.

They have also won five Africa Cup of Nations and Olympic gold in 2000.

The Nigeria national football team are three-time Africa Cup of Nations winners, with their most recent title in 2013.

In April 1994, the Nigerian national football team was ranked 5th in the FIFA rankings, the highest FIFA ranking position ever achieved by an African football team.

Throughout history, the team has qualified for six of the last seven FIFA World Cups (as of 2018), missing only the 2006 edition and reaching the round of 16 on three occasions. Their first World Cup appearance was the 1994 edition.

Teenage Stoke City GK, Fulham, Bayern stars named in Cameroon squad vs Nigeria; ex-Spurs striker out

The Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) has announced a 28-man group for the international friendly against Nigeria on June 4 with three of their stars in the shape of former Tottenham Hotspur striker Clinton Njie, Besiktas star Vincent Aboubakar and AS Saint-Ă©tienne center back Harold Moukoudi not appearing on the list of invited players.

Just like their Nigerian counterparts, Cameroon have decided to name a large pool of players for the glamour friendly because they are still shopping for a second opponent to face next month, after the game against Nigeria.

Indomitable Lions coach Toni Conceição has decided to leave out Njie, who scored against the Super Eagles the last time the two teams faced off at the 2019 AFCON, as well as Aboubakar and Moukoudi who are recovering from injuries.

An analysis of the 28-man roster revealed that four goalkeepers, nine defenders, eight midfielders and seven strikers have been called up.

Ola Aina could face his Fulham teammate Zambo Anguissa as the midfielder is part of the Cameroon squad.

Bayern Munich striker Choupo-Moting and teenage goalkeeper Blondy Noukeu of Stoke City have received invitations for the friendly.

Fai Collins (Standard Liège), Kunde Malong (Mainz), Toko Ekambi (Lyon) and Bassogog Christian (Shanghai Shenhua) are some of the eye-catching names in contention to face the Super Eagles.

Cameroon squad to face Nigeria

Goalkeepers : Ondoa Fabrice (Nk Istra 1961 - Croatia), Omossola Simon (As Vita Club - R. Congo); Blondy Noukeu (Stoke City - England), Estimate Epassy (Pas Lamia - Greece)

Defenders : Fai Collins (Standard Liège - Belgium), Ngadeu Michael (La Gantoise - Belgium), Billong JC (Matayspor - Turkey), Mbaizo Olivier (Union Philadelphia - USA ), Castelletto JC (Nantes -France), Meyapa Fongaing (Fauve Azur - Cameroon), Dawa Joyskim (Valmiera - Latvia), Nouhou Tolo (Seattle - USA ), Tchamba Duplexe (Stromsgodset- Norway)

Rohr: Cameroon Friendly Good Test For Super Eagles

Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr said the long rivalry between the Super Eagles and Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions would yet again come to the fore when the continental arch-rivals clash in an international friendly on 4 June at the Weiner Neustadt Stadium in Vienna, Austria.

Rohr said it becomes imperative to keep his wards in shape, following the postponement of the first and second matchdays of the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, adding that Cameroon is an ideal fixture to bring out the best in his side.

“This friendly against Cameroon is an interesting game because we are going to have some of the new players, since some of our regular players will not be available due to injuries, and it is not easy to have everybody at this period because it is also the offseason period,” Rohr told CAFOnline.com.

“It is a big test game and an opportunity to test the new players,” added the German coach.

Incidentally, this is the fourth time Rohr would be leading Nigeria against Cameroon since taking over the Super Eagles in 2016, and he admitted there would always be a sense of déjà vu anytime both side meet.

Nigeria, who won the Africa Cup of Nations three times but have been walloped by Cameroon in the final of the competition on three other occasions, defeated the Indomitable Lions 3-0 in a friendly in Belgium in October 2015, and have not lost to the Lions in regular time since a 1990 FIFA World Cup qualifier in Yaounde on 27th August 1989.

Under Rohr, the Super Eagles wounded the Indomitable Lions with a 4-0 home win in Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and had a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture in Yaounde. It was Nigeria that yet beat Cameroon 3-2 in that energetic 2019 Total AFCON Round of 16 decider in Alexandria, Egypt.

“Of course, we are not going to play for the result against Cameroon in Austria, but it’san opportunity to see our boys and see something different with our systems against a very good team that will host the next AFCON,” Rohr, who will turn 68 on June 28th further told CAFOnline.com.

“It is true that we beat them in the Russia 2018 World Cup qualifiers and at the last AFCON in a very interesting game of the Round of 16, but this friendly is going to be different. I’ve seen that they have a list of 28 players, but I’m hopeful all our players listed would be able to come for the match. I hope we are going to have a good weather in Vienna for this match,” he added.

What is super about this friendly?

Even when top 10 teams play themselves in friendly they don't call it "super Friendly" they allow others to hail them.

In terms of Football Cameroon is dead, the days of Samuel Eto'o are far behind them. And their team will be LUCKY to pass group stage in Afcon and will definitely not be at the 2022 worldcup.

Meanwhile in England they didn't call up Tammy Abraham, Tomori, Dele Alli and co.

Listen to what England coach said grin grin grin

Play for Nigeria they will not hear you want to play for England even 33 man list they did not enter.
