The issue of Rural Grazing Areas (RUGA) proposed by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to address the herders/farmers crisis in the country has been on the front burner. While some states rejected the initiative, others have embraced it and begun implementation.https://dailytrust.com/how-states-differ-over-fgs-ruga-initiative

The solution to herders-farmers violent clashes in Nigeria has remained elusive due to lack of consensus, especially between the Federal Government of Nigeria and affected north-central and southern states' Governments, regarding the right methodology for curbing the menace. This lingering lack of consensus is attributable to the sentimentalization of this sensitive national issue given the wide ethnic and religious differences between two warring groups-the 'herders' who are predominantly Fulani, and the crop farmers. |

No land should be ceded. Else you have to do the same for all businesses. Let's ask ourselves: How much does cow rearing contribute to our GDP? Where do the proceeds go to? Does it count as natural resources? So because they chose violence if not given land to rear their cattle, we should succumb to their demands? Poultry rearers should start killing, so the Government can allocate a place for them to rear their birds? my final word, since Catte rearing is a private business, the owners should look for lands, buy and rear their cattle period! |

Still on cow matter... Fulani herdsmen are first class citizen, that’s why the government is giving them a lot of attention. I see more Fulani herdsmen community in all state in Nigeria via ruga. They will have their own caliphate and Sharia law |

We have learnt our lessons and we won't be fooled again. Give a fulani man a plot of land, he will go and bring his entire village to settle there, and then the space will not contain them anymore, and he will expand to a hectare. After which they will take over the entire village. We have learnt our lessons. Let their Northern states implement the RUGA! It is not by force and the federal government should not try to make the mistake of forcing the program on others. It won't work. |

Common sense! "Bayelsa cedes Palm Road as grazing zone The Bayelsa State governor, Senator Douye Diri, had in March signed into law a bill prohibiting open grazing of livestock, making it a criminal offence for anybody to carry out open grazing in the state. The state government also ceded Bayelsa Palm Road in Yenagoa, the state capital for grazing and ranching. The bill, tagged: “Livestock Breeding, Rearing and Marketing Regulations Law 2021,” was earlier passed into law by the state House of Assembly. Diri, who gave executive assent to the bill, said that the essence of the law was to ensure a harmonious living between cattle dealers and other inhabitants of the state and to forestall the violent clashes being experienced in other parts of the country He said, “Bayelsa State welcomes all and sundry to eke out a living legitimately. The people of Bayelsa want to have a mutual and harmonious relationship with non-natives and natives. The essence of the law is to avert and forestall any clash between herdsmen, farmers, natives and non-natives as experienced in some states.” The law also stipulates that any herdsman found with arms, whether licensed or not should be arrested. It also established a livestock management committee to regulate livestock activities in the state. " |

Hmm... why are we giving so much attention to the herdsmen? Why must we force RUGA on states? The earlier states act against the RUGA act, the better for the nation. |

I saw bayelsa state and diri! I don't think he understands there is a difference between a rural grassing reserve which supports open herding of cattle run by federal govt .with no income to the state And ranching of cattle whereby a herder is runs a cattle ranch in which the state generates income |
