Int’l Friendly: Super Eagles Camp Bubbles With 17 Players After Iwobi, Moffi, Olayinka , Others Arrival


17 players have arrived Nigeria’s camp in Austria ahead of the international friendly fixtures against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, reports Completesports.com.

The Super Eagles will face the Indomitable Lions in the first friendly on Friday at the Stadion Weiner Neustadt, Vienna.

The second game will hold at the same venue next week Tuesday.

Vice-captain of the team William Troost-Ekong and Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi arrived the team’s camp on Monday.

Kelechi Iheanacho, Oghenekaro Etebo, Abraham Marcus, Anayo Iwuala, Shehu Abdullahi John Noble and assistant coach Alloy Agu arrived the team’s camp from Nigeria on Tuesday morning.

They were later joined in camp by the likes Alex Iwobi, Chidozie Awaziem, Terem Moffi, and Peter Olayinka.

Indomitable Lions goalkeeper Fabrice Ondoa is doubtful for Friday’s friendly against Nigeria due to injury, reports Completesports.com.

The Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) have handed a late call-up to Royal Excel Mouscron winger Serge Tabekou ahead of their friendlies against the Super Eagles in Austria, according to various reports in the Cameroonian press.

Actu Cameroon says Lille midfielder Jean Onana, who spent the entirety of the recently concluded season on loan at Royal Excel Mouscron, has pulled out of the squad as a result of injury.

The 21-year-old Onana was not involved in the last two games played by Royal Excel Mouscron in the Belgian First Division A.

Tabekou is on his way to link up with the Indomitable Lions for the training camp which starts on Monday, May 31.

While Onana has two caps for the five-time African champions, Tabekou has five appearances to his name, most recently in the goalless draw versus Rwanda in March.

Cameroon manager Antonio Conceicao has called up twenty-eight players for the two matches against Nigeria, and the roster is headlined by Bayern Munich striker Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting.

Nigeria will take on Cameroon at the Weiner Neustadt Stadium in Austria on Friday June 4, starting from 1930 hours (GMT) and will face the same opponents at the same venue on Tuesday June 8, starting from 1600 hours (GMT).

The Super Eagles say they are determined to extend an unbeaten streak of five matches when they confront the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon at the Stadion Wiener Neustadt in the Austrian capital in an international friendly on Friday evening.

Three–time African champions Nigeria have not lost a match since they were edged by the odd goal by reigning African champions Algeria in an international friendly also in Austria in October 2020.

Since then, they have drawn 1-1 with Tunisia’s Carthage Eagles in a friendly match; drawn 4-4 and 0-0 with Sierra Leone in back-to-back 2021 AFCON qualifying matches in November 2020; defeated Benin Republic 1-0 in Porto Novo in another 2021 AFCON qualifier and; walloped Lesotho 3-0 in the finale to the 2021 AFCON qualifying race in Lagos.

Defender Anthony Izuchukwu, who plays for Sparta Trnava of Slovakia, joined up with the Nigeria camp at the Hilton Garden Inn, Wiener Neustadt Osterreich on Wednesday, moving the needle on the number of players in camp to 21.


Both fierce rivals on the African continent will again clash in a second game also at the Stadion Wiener Neustadt in Vienna on Tuesday.

Cameroon Boss Conceição To Unleash Choupo-Moting, Ekambi On Super Eagles


Cameroon head coach António Conceição will be banking on the duo of Eric Maxim Choupo -Moting and Karl Toko Ekambi to deliver the goods for his side in Friday’s (today) friendly encounter against perenial foes Nigeria, reports Completesports.com.

The prestige friendly will take place at the 10,000 capacity Stadion Weiner Neustadt, Vienna.

The Indomitable Lions are without a win in their last three games against the Super Eagles.

In their most recent meeting, Cameroon lost 3-2 to the Super Eagles in a Round of 16 clash at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Conceicao’s side will be determined to avenge the defeat and the duo of Choupo-Moting and Ekambi will be the men they will be banking on to help wreck the Super Eagles defence.

Choupo-Moting, who plays for Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich has scored 16 goals in 55 appearances for the Indomitable Lions.

The forward scored thrice in 22 league outings for Bayern Munich in the recent concluded campaign.

Ekambi scored 14 goals in 35 league appearances for Ligue 1 club Olympic Lyon in the 2020/21 season.

The 28-year-old has three goals in 33 league appearances for his country.
