His appointment is against the police act 2020 signed by the president this year. Oya, NBA over to you. Baba has two years to retire, when he gets to sixty years, he will claim his appointment is for 4 years so he will retire at 62 years in office against the law of 60 years or 35 years in service. This is the same scenario the Accountant General is now using so he will retire from office at 62 years of age. |

The Senate passed the Police Reform Bill on April 17, 2019 and the President signed the Act in 2020. The Bill seeks to make sure that appointment of such (IGP) is subject to confirmation of the Senate as it applies to all service chiefs, Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), ministers, ambassadors, heads of statutory commissions and agencies. Based on this, the President cannot confirm him, but appoint him. Anybody more knowledgeable should please enlighten us. |
