If this is true then seun and the mods need to take drastic measures to curb this menace before Nairaland gets known as the den of scammers.

The fact is that there are a lot of scammers selling stolen funds here, that is why most of them are afraid to reveal their true identity.

As a rule, anyone you are dealing with should reveal his or her true identity to you... Know their name, bank account number and cross-check with their social media page information.

Any body telling you they are not into social media but they have foreign currency to buy or sell is a potential scammer who wants to remain anonymous in case they pull off a scam here.

Some of them will give you account details of their friend or relative who doesn't know what is happening or knows and has agreed to take a cut...the picker... some will even use pos operator account to receive your money... that is why you must cross-check the information they provide, name, account number (bank name), ID card and social media page to see if they match...

They can forge ID card and social media page but at least they can't forge bank name with BVN...

Avoid paying money into mushroom accounts open in micro finance banks as they don't do proper kyc in case you need to report the scam to your bank...

If you are going to sell foreign or digital currency, don't send to the person first if you are not sure of their identity or reputation... If you send first, there's no way to track them or report the issue...

If they provide you with their bank account details...you can run a check to confirm their true identity before thinking of sending them your money...

95% or more of the people you'll meet here are either scammers, fraudsters or into one illegal activity or the other... No matter how popular they may be, the right time and incentive will make them run off with your money... therefore treat everybody like a suspect till you complete your transaction successfully...

If you have doubts, use escrow.

If you send first without following above guidelines and even common sense then maybe you didn't work hard for the money.

It's a lesson I have learnt painfully. They have blocked me on Whatsapp and everywhere, but I refuse to lose hope. Nkeiruka, what's in the future is greater.

I've lost 42 thousand naira, maybe it is a lesson that has come cheaply. God knows I have learnt my lesson. I shall be more doubtful, more apprehensive, more eagle eyed.

Chairman, if you are logging into your account from a strange location / country, they can sometimes send a verification code to your email to confirm it's really you.
