Cutezt:
All the people I personally know that studied there said they just went to get the certificate cos they are not taught anything but buy this and that.

The people you know said that because they were not serious. They only needed the Certificate and not the knowledge. This scenario can also be seen in other higher Institutions. There are lots of students that are serious in their studies and have come out with flying colors as can be seen in the graduation list every year.

Actually I intended to study medical course but due to the Nigeria factor, the admission isn't forthcoming.
I now intend to apply to apply to noun to study mathematics and computer science and further later as their admission is easier.

Pls how efficient is the national open University when it's comes to academics and studying?
What's other advice can you give me
it has nothing to do with Nigeria factor , stop blaming Nigeria. Something tells me you can't cope with the competition required to get these courses and you've decided to take the easier way out

Exams are clashing like..I can't understand this country o!
I felt disappointed because what I expected isn't what I met

A course of study with NOUN is always a long walk, but it's [s]alright.Nobody gives so much a damn about your educational background in computer profession for as long as you are sound and deep and are ready to deliver.[/s]It would pay you well , while you are walking the stretch , to learn many computer professional courses before you graduate.
Stop spreading that lie... A degree in computer science is a big advantage

The standard of education at the NOUN is very low

Their certificate is almost useless....

Toto Game lol... With this ur username, you can't be taken seriously. Anyways, I did one of my bachelor's degree with NOUN and was even able to bag a foreign scholarship with it. This year, I got 2 master's degree offers with my NOUN degree (at LASU and UNILAG), so stop saying what u don't know.

Your education is what you make of it. There are tons of UK graduates working in restaurants and many Nigerian polytechnic graduates doing white collar jobs in top level establishment! Life has gone beyond those school names era !

NOUN is good for the student who can read on his own with little group discussions relating to your course, due to it's unconventional university but if you know that you're not sound academically, please just go to conventional university.

If you have confidence on your ability academically, you will enjoy NOUN and you may even finish your courses before the stipulated period for your course. I'm studying my Msc in NOUN and enjoying it very well because it make sense for me, I'm writing my project now...

My candid advice: Go ahead and do it. I recommend NOUN to anyone who wishes to study and work at the same time, or anyone who wishes to do ICT related course. I am a product of NOUN. I read Computer Science BSc and MSc Information Technology all from NOUN. I am presently working with NAFDAC as a Senior Computer Analyst by day, and Software Developer by night.
Open University degree is recognised anyway in the world as I am planning to do my PhD in Canada. So please go ahead if you so wish to, as the degree is not consider inferior at all.

Good choice. Give you time to also make money while studying. There are other courses like law and Nursing in Noun too if you fancy those.

Cheers

I am a NOUN graduate and I do not regret studying there. The 4 years will give you ample space and time to develop yourself professionally, take certification courses and manage your life better. Going for a regular bachelor's will take ur time and leave you like a sheep after NYSC but definitely offers better school life and confident mindset (till you enter the labour market and know whats up).

I studied there, got a foreign scholarship cos I had a good CGPA and also did a professional course. This year alone, I applied and got admission in LASU and Unilag (after passing the entrance exams) for full-time and part time master's respectively. Now I am the one to choose where to further... Don't let anyone tell you NOUN is frowned upon, it's all about what u can do.

I would advice you go for Open university, but you will need to develop yourself personally by doing more of research and reading..

The school is licensed by NUC which makes it certificate valid for any purposes intended and accepted in any country.

The certificate is valid as any other university certificate in Nigeria..

Infact, I have seen NOUN graduate being employed in Federal Universities and Polytechnic....check LinkedIn to verify

Most government officials are opting for NOUN especially for PGD programs due to it flexibility in learning..

Top private companies in Nigeria and international NGOS are accepting also NOUN graduate.... LinkedIn

NOUN has started online facilitation of lectures to aid learning process, which over time, it would improve.

Good luck..

to you NYSC is everything? Beyond the shores of Nigeria, who needs your NYSC? Stay there with ur village mentality. NYSC is just another waste of 1 year as far as I am concerned and it will be scrapped sooner or later.

If you want to serve, go to a regular university/polytechnic. There is an opportunity cost for every decision.
