Odogwu was underground or should I say not celebrated for too long and was already overdue for a big break.

Remember hits like “like to party”, “run my race”, “follow me”, “check and balance” truth is burna had been different all this while but we just weren’t listening enough and the world wasn’t taking notice.

So what happened why did burna boy become a global star ? What changed?

Now I can’t tell you every single thing because I am not burna boy’s mother or sister but I can tell you the more visible ones that you can apply to your business and life.

First thing that worked for burna was CONSISTENCY. The guy was there long enough and went hard enough to get the big break he deserved. He knew he was good and different but didn’t let the frustration of not hitting it big then affect his game. Since 2011, he only rose to prominence in 2017 with “Ye”. Many people love to hit it big immediately forgetting to put in enough work and patience, Incase things don’t go as you planned it.

The second thing was, EVOLUTION. Burna boy never stayed still, his music continuously transformed from when I first heard it till now. Burna was kinda street inclined in his style then. But that couldn’t have gotten him the Grammy award. “Ye” was an eye opener to him and we saw a new burna boy in “OUTSIDE”. The burna that wanted to dominate globally, his dressing, music videos, and song pattern changed, He started looking like a Grammy nominee not a Headies award nominee. How many times do we evaluate our patterns and their end results and evolve into a better and more productive version like burna did ? I will leave that for you to answer.

An ATTITUDE to match. For me this was the fuel in an already burning fire. The guy talked big, remember the Coachella thing, walked big and worked big. He raised his attitude way above his status. Baba sing odogwu before him win Grammy now (lol). This didn’t go down well with a lot of fans and colleagues, they thought he was proud and pompous because of his overnight success. But again burna wasn’t an overnight success it was long hard work, dedication, change, luck and attitude to match. See, you can’t have success without a positive mindset towards your dreams and work. You will just be getting below par results compared to the work you put in.

Lastly eh, Burna was lucky, yes he was. The song “Ye” got international reviews faster because, it was same title with Kanye west’s album and burna song just came three months after Kanye’s album. So a lot of foreigners played it by mistake but the song was good that’s where Burna’s hardwork and creativity spoke for him. Luck comes but only the prepared can utilize it to its full potential.
