Any article that involves Chimamanda is usually very lengthy. grin

You will not notice the length if you read it. She is that good

The thing is,I have this usual bad habit of scrolling down first before reading any article...to know what I'm in for. grin
I try to resist the urge...

Chimamanda went too low on this.

She should learn how to issue a press statement (and nothing more) to address any defamation that harms her personality.

Besides, young people need support and it is quite dishonest of her to describe same young people she is trying to help through her workshop as people who always want to benefit from her.

She must bear in mind she too had at, one time or the other, clung to people for the sole purpose of benefitting from them.

Now, a big question: Who does she accept in her circle. Can she accept and entertain a feminist from a financially unstable background like she did to the friend in her write-up?

In the end, everybody is a hypocrite.

Everything is not about beautiful writing.

Did you even read up to five sentences of this article?

That's the problem with our generation - Everyone is too eager to talk, and no one wants to listen.

Your position is biased.
I only heard you blame Chimamanda, but you fail to utter blame on the other lady despite all she was said to have done.
Put yourself in Chimamanda shoes. I bet you would do far worse.

Hi,

I read every bit of it. I thoroughly dissected, analyzed it and weighed the options and the implications for both parties.

For those who do not know,

Feminists always have an issue with transgenders. It didn't start with Chimamanda.

21 century feminist is a joke..

We are all human first, before any other thing. She’s who she is because she choose to be. The transgenders are who they’re because they choose to be. She has no right to criticize anything..

Feminist didn’t start like that..

Well said. And Transphobic is a derogatory word created by trans people and sympathizers to discriminate against people who don't subscribe to their lifestyle, they want to be free to choose but don't respect others rights to choose differently. ..

I'm confused, Are we supposed to apologize for being "Transphobic" "Homophobic"? sad

These Gender LABELS is a Big Problem.

The fact that I can't live in the North should not make anyone label me "NorthPhobic"

I read that her article
And one thing I got from it is this:

"In certain young people today like these two from my writing workshop, I notice what I find increasingly troubling: a cold-blooded grasping, a hunger to take and take and take, but never give; a massive sense of entitlement; an inability to show gratitude; an ease with dishonesty and pretension and selfishness that is couched in the language of self-care; an expectation always to be helped and rewarded no matter whether deserving or not; language that is slick and sleek but with little emotional intelligence; an astonishing level of self-absorption; an unrealistic expectation of puritanism from others; an over-inflated sense of ability, or of talent where there is any at all; an inability to apologize, truly and fully, without justifications; a passionate performance of virtue that is well executed in the public space of Twitter but not in the intimate space of friendship".

I find it obscene.

Chimamanda was perfectly right about the attitude of many young people today

Feminists see transgenders as a threat, and that's understandable.

Not to offend you but your point makes me think you didnt read everything. You probably stopped at the first chapter of her very long write up. She never said she wasn’t inclined to helping upcoming people. As a matter of fact, she said she might have her reservations as a human but that she has never withheld her support when needed.

Her anger stems from the fact that 2 people whom she lent her support betrayed her and vilified her image. That according to her has led her into regretting having them around in her life. Of course, every human being would feel quite same.
Her article is meant to clear the air and prevent falsehood about her from becoming true in the minds of some people.

She has an image to protect and she is doing just that. I see nothing wrong in my opinion.

who read all that ?

I read everything.
I'm still chewing on it though.

One thing I know is that writers are usually deeply melancholic and tend to be narrow minded.

Quick question: Are we to address a transgender woman for example, as fully woman, when they have missed lots of experiences of womanhood such as adolescence and the attendant puberty etc?
These people are baffling me.

Haha that's a good question... the truth is, no trans (male or female) is ever completely changed into the sex which they went for as there remains the presence of those little bits for their former selves, these limitations would always remain and serve as a reminder that they aren't a complete God created version of their new self. To apply it to your question No, they can have the prefix miss, mrs etc of whatever women maybe addressed as but No they cannot be called fully grown men they are more of a hurried experiment.
