The secret is : 40 did it in 6 days, that means it will take more time for 30 men to do it. More reason why it becomes 40/30 so that the days would be increased.

Let me give you another example.

If 3 boys can fill a tank in 18 minutes. In how many minutes can 6 boys do it?

If you observe, 3 boys can do it in 18 minutes, that means 6 boys will do it in less than 18 minutes.

For it to be less, 3/6 (boys) X 18 = 9 minutes.


If I want to find in how many minutes 2 boys will do it, it means that it must be greater than the time 3 boys did it or will do it. Which will be 3/2 x 18 = 27 minutes.

It will always take 40 boys to work per day in 1farm
40boys * 6days= 240 appearances for job to be done

30 boys*6days= 180 appearances for 30 boys in 6days
240 - 180 = 60 (60 appearances missing in 6days) and the 30 men need to meet up

If every 40 appearances= 1day
Then 60 appearances= 1.5days.
i.e 60/40

So the 30 boys will work extra 1.5 days out of 6days

(6+1.5) = 7.5 days
It will take 7 days 12 hours for 30 men to work in the farm
