I am asking this question because anytime I see a journal online and I want to buy it,I will be asked to enter my card number.

Also I have been asked several times to enter my credit card number to pay for some packages like Acrobat reader, etc, whenever I am trying to install some packages in my laptop.

But I don't understand how it is done.

Is it my ATM card number they are talking about?

Please someone should enlighten me.

Yes it's your ATM card details. But make sure you enter it into genuine websites. There are many scam websites out there that will still your card details.

Yes, not just anyhow ATM, should be MASTERCARD or VISA CARD.

My ATM has 16 numbers written.

If I enter those numbers and the amount I want to pay, will my account be debited?

NO, it will be credited. You are paying for something and u expect money not to leave your account.
