The Senator representing Zamfara Central in the National Assembly, Hassan Mohammad Gusau, has tendered his resignation as a member of the opposition Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP).

POLITICS NIGERIA learned that his resignation was conveyed in a latter addressed to the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, and read during the start of plenary on Tuesday.

He explained in the letter that, “My decision is necessitated due to the collapse of internal democracy and factionalisation of the party from ward levels in Zamfara State.

“Further decisions on political movement and party affiliations will be communicated to this chamber in due course.”

Gusau's defection is coming ahead of the rumoured defection of Zamfara state governor, Bello Matawalle on Tuesday. The PDP is currently in crisis as it has lost 3 governors to the ruling party so far.

Factionalism created by politicians to make them go from party to party. All seeking opportunities to improve their own lives and further impoverish the citizens who are hood winked during elections to vote them in. We must ask if Nigeria and Nigerians truly understand what democracy means.

Few years down the road, these same politicians will decamp back if there's nothing like APC anymore.... Or PDP gains power back to Ask Rock.

Nigerians politics has nothing to do with ideology, or good of the masses.... It's all about personal interest and where to chop money without being probed.

We need a law, that will reduce this rubbish in our political system.

i can't win election with a platform's mandate and port to Another party after gaining ground.

a law should be in place. if you want to defect, resign from the part. then the party should hand over to the runner up of the primary election that produced the AWO member. i believe this will help reset this madness of politicking without ideaology.
