Oga I never knows that a country called Georgia exist. But I know there's a sate called Georgia in USA.

But honestly never knows that there's a country called Georgia.
When I search google, it says a country aroind the black sea, sharing border with Armenia, Azerbaijan & Turkey etc... If am not mistaken.
That what's got me confused since I knows only
of US state named Georgia... I come to NL with my case to get more info but seems it wasn't the right place for it SMH. Thanks for tour time.

Well, you are not the only one because when the war between Georgia and Russia broke out, most Americans were confused, because they thought Russia came all the way and started war within their country and they were asking people in living Georgia state questions.
Questions like where are the USA navy?

Well, in Georgia's case. The US State was named after King George II(1727-1760) of England. King George II was the second king of the Hanoverian line.

While Georgia(the country) was named after the inhabitants of the land themselves. Actually, it is most likely a corruption of the Persian word or name for the inhabitants of the land. The Persians used to call the inhabitants of the area where you now have the Republic of Georgia, 'Gurg'.

So, as time went on it metamorphosed into what it is today- Georgia.

I could go on and on but I hope this helps.

Edward Shevardnadze a former Soviet high ranking politician ( he was minister of foreign affairs ) was from the state of Georgia , in the former soviet Union.
The Soviet leader Josef Staline was from Georgia . That state became an independent country after the collapse of the Soviet
Union and Shevardnadze became the first president. The capital city is Tbilisi

At no time was it a "state" under the Soviet Union. It was a Republic within the Soviet Union.
