The characters were flat, uninteresting, and obnoxious (maybe except Bols). The deaths became predictable after the first 2, the sad moments were either unintentionally funny or just pure cringe.

Edgy ≠ Mature

Devilman Crybaby and Elfen Lied did the "ow the edge" thing better.
