Before Leno went to injury and Martinez replaced him, Leno or aubameyang was clear of winning arsenal player of the year. He was that good before his injury. Martinez seem a bit better wen he came, but in business sense you don't throw away someone you bought for good amount the previous season and who is also contender for the club's POTY just because your 2nd keeper (who is from your academy) put in impressive performance in just 2 months.

I hear you but this is more like a politically correct PR statement. The difference was obvious to an experienced eye, just like Ronaldinho while holding the world best title and carrying Barca already knew that Messi was better than him as at 2006. And events have proven him right since he made that statement.

It was already obvious to me that Martinez was more innately talented, how much more experienced football professionals? What has happened afterwards with both keepers has belied the competency of the decision makers at Arsenal.

Lol... Arsenal had Martinez when they bought ospina, bought Cech and bought Leno. The thing is Martinez was/is a late bloomer cos even his few early years at arsenal was inconsistent unlike now(only very very very few arsenal fans can vouch that he'll turn out this good). It's not an easy decision to make when deciding keepers, cos both can't be seeing fair game time unlike outfield players (like your messi-dinho example). One needs to go, and it's not straight forward to let go of your best keeper after he was bought the previous season just because his deputy shone for just 2 months. I've never seen it done anywhere(you can prove me wrong with evidence). If Leno had underwhelmed before Martinez took over, I would have joined in blasting arsenal board, but like I earlier said, Leno was gunning for the club's best player prior to his injury. You know what it means for a keeper to gun for club's best player right?.

The decision looks stupid now sadly, but then every decision is a risk. One can't get every decision right.

Well, your comment just showcases Arsenal's lugubrious standards and fall from grace if a player like Leno can be gunning for their best player award. To be honest I cant remember him having a genuine outstanding season like even De Gea, Ter Stegen did few years ago let alone Allison, Neuer or Oblak. On the other hand, most Premier League followers do remember Martinez's spectacular exploits which was why eyebrows were raised by many at Arsenal's choice to let him go.

So like I said, within that 2 months of Martinez it was obvious to me and many others that he was better than Leno had ever been pre-injury. Taking a decision to allow him leave was therefore an unwise move and the Board should accept culpability. The signs were already there to help them make a right decision but were ignored to their detriment.
