It more of Bitange Ndemo vision really. Sadly he got into land scandal on this project. Bitange Ndemo should be made a head of this project. The Tanui guy is good for engineering aspect of this - but next phase will need a marketer who can sell the vision to global tech companies.

Kibaki was smart enough to realise that with all the technological advancements going on a tech city would be a really viable idea.

Sometimes I wonder what would have been if we only had mineral resources.

I've seen so many cities being built and I'm still waiting for something tangible something that at least resemble the render.

Those are just projections they will remain such
Huh! And who cares what you have to say. Interestingly enough I don't know of any megaprojects In your country and I couldn't care less.

rvp2018:
Why not complete Eko city before starting many new ones.
Konza city once horizontal infrastructure is done - about 50 percent now - will fly.
The reason is simple - Gov is giving out the Land for FREE - as long as you're tech or research company.
So imagine for investors - getting free land with all utilities sorted.
Obviously nobody sane will go to Eko CIty and buy land for 10M dollars..when there is free land in Konza City.
Land connected to electricity that will never go down, with best fiber connections, water, sewers, storm drains, name it.

See the kind of massive work being undertaken by Italians to get world class infrastructure. Once horizontal infrastructure is complete - the plots will be issued for free- and 2-3 yrs - the city will be beehive of activies.

Nigga, don't even go there, Eko Atlantic City in comparison with all projects in kenya, is what a father is to a son. And do you even know that all the 25km2 of land in Eko Atlantic are sold out already, that all major infrastructures ( roads,15+ Bridges, underground drainage and sewage systems, independent power....) Are completed?

Absolutely, we really need to sell this project. I just hope we can sort out things 2022 as Uhuru has been doing great for the past year. Last thing we need is some idiot getting in office and dragging us down.

EKO CITY is failed project. There is already real estate glut in Lagos lasting many years because again - you cannot just build tall office blocks without formal economy. Filling up one is not a easy job. You don't just recreate Dubai or NewYork without the economy to support it.

Now let talk Konza city - TECHNOLOGY CITY - once we get horizontal infrastructure done - we will invite the global tech companies and research institution - to set up their campus there - we already have data center - best of electricity - fiber - and name it.

These tech companies will jump at the opportunity - not only for free land - but a planned city - whose total area is going to be 100Km square of planned, well secured, all utilities - and connected to the train to Mombasa for weekend of best beaches, few kilometers you're in Amboseli watching animals and you can literally see Kilimanjaro -60kms you're in Nairobi - and 50km in JKIA airport.

Konza will fly. Eko city is dead.

I don't think any of current leadership understand technology to have a vision of this with clarity that someone like Bitange Ndemo has. Maybe they give it to Michael Joseph - and he will have the credibility having created Mpesa - to attract global tech companies.

The biggest risk is they may see this as free land grabbing session - and give it phoney river road companies - interested in the land - not in creating Africa Tech Ecosystem.

Nigga, Kenyans can never build any tangible city from the scratch, Senegal, ivory coast , Nigeria (Abuja, Eko Atlantic ..) have all built new standard cities from scratch and only took less than 20 years in building these cities.

There is nothing like this in South Africa. You do not have any techno city. You already lost the tech battle to Kenya - and maybe Nigeria. Of course it slow because this new city in the middle of nowhere....
You haven't answered me!

Anyway this is not a competition! Neither does kenya have a tech city.

What tech battle? undecided you lost!

Kenya is attempting to build a city, it does not have a tech city

Re: Kenyans Are Far Behind Nigerians In Every Aspect – Fani-Kayode by rvp2018: 11:37am On Jul 10, 2021
None from South Africa definitely - but Elon Musk kind. We already got Korean famous research institution onboard. We need silicon valley kind of companies - Microsoft, Googles, Facebooks, Twitters, SAP, Oracles, name them.

The vision is simple - to create a silicon valley in Africa for home grown and foreign tech and research companies.

I hope you know how much silicon valley contribute to US economy from it's tiny location.

I believe Amazon, Google, Facebook, Twitter did not see much of that vision

Because they choose other countries to build institutions, real estate and headquarters in other countries in Africa. Even after Konza city was commissioned

A revolution starts during construction, wink you see even when building a mall how shops pick up space is sign of how successful the mall will be, same goes for any other development.

Again which tech companies are coming to Konza?

I suppose Amazon still overlooked that with $300m headquarters investment wink

They would have chosen Konza if it was much of a huge deal

You know we can simply reduce our budget to Nigeria kind of level - for us that would be having 10B budget - pay our teachers 75 dollars a month like you do - pay our army majors and general 400 dollars like you do - the salary we pay our army recruits in training - we can stop development -capital investment - or deliver projects at such slow pace - it come to fruition 30yrs later if at all - we can go on and on. We can definitely shut down all the power stations and have everyone buying their own generator if they can afford - or sweating like a pig in darkness if they cannot afford. We can even allow kidnapping to become part of us - but we choose to resource police better - they use brand new car every day that is expensively leased - and if it develop a small hitch - car companies rush with new one - police get better pay, have life insurance and housing - all these cost money.

But we choose to be ambitious - and to set very high tax target annually - because we have a vision as country to become a proper middle income (like South Africa) by 2030.

So the budget you want us to have would be revenues 6B (being 6 percent of 100B) - and borrowing maybe of 2B - 8B kshs smiley smiley

Budget deficit - simply mean we are leveraging (borrowing more) and betting on our future - which indeed is bright.
Your recruits(army) earn about $71 while in Nigeria they earn about $120.
Your budget is even as small as it is gets stolen every year. Look at Nairobi for example and see the slums getting bigger.
You are a small country and yet poorly run. Look at the levels of starvation in Northern Kenya, do I need to post the pictures again?
Why are Kenyans braving the uncertainty and abuse in the gulf so as to escape from your hell hole?
There is no hope in Kenya. So, you would rather tax poor Kenyans to death all because you want to give them electricity and water? The same electricity you produce nothing with. Nigeria's. even With all the mismanagement still has a higher manufacturing index than Kenya.

It's just stupid if because you want to keep up with the Joneses, you tax your people madly and borrow from China against your future. You can't pay China back because you make little money. Kenya's future is indeed bleak. This is the last flickering flash before the darkness for you.
Unlike Nigeria, look at the Projects we have in the pipeline, ...Lekki Port about to be completed,.. The Dangote Refinery about to be completed,.. our railway projects, then our agricultural potentials and blossoming ICT sector, not to mention huge reserves of gas..it's endless.
It's senseless to tax your people dry and borrow against your children's future from China to fund a budget that your politicians keep stealing. Kenya is the real hell.

You retrogressed to Just30 mad levels. This is very desperate post.

Let not go into salaries comparison - you will lose. Kenya private earn more than Nigeria Major. Dont waste your time...your ethiopia like army of 360,000 personell...are nearly on the same budget with kenya lean force of 25,000. DO NOT GO THERE shocked I think both countries are now on budget of 1.5B dollars - one support a lean proffesional army of 25k - one support a milita like Ethiopia one of 360K paid with beans and yams or if at all - a cowardly milita that run away from Boko Haram.

And finally what has Dangote Refinery or Lekki port or Oil refineries - got anything to do with Nigeria gov.

This very desperate level - try to elevate a little bit.

Real companies are shunning Kenya. This konza shiit is dead on arrival. Facebook opened its first office for Africa in Jo'burg and the second is coming up in Lagos.
Ghana has Twitter Africa headquarters. Don't you see the handwriting on the wall? Tanzania and Uganda will soon displace Kenya even in East Africa.

You need to connect taxes with Boko haram - to be able to understand this.
Explain to us how you Nigeria Milita (calling it army is an abuse of the word) - survives with 2B dollar budget -with a force of 360,000 personell.
While Kenya military has a budget of 1.3B dollars with a force of 25,000.
When we go to police - they have similar budget of 1.5b dollar - with force of 40,000.
