You are right. The presence of Messi already puts extra defensive duties on his teammates as we all know that's not his forte. Including Di Maria early on may make Argentina like short one defensively against an attack minded Brazilian side.

The flip side is that, given that Brazil have the best defence in the competition, Messi will need quality creative support to function optimally and Di Maria is really the only one close to that same x-factor wavelength. So the risk is that Argentina might already be behind by the time Di Maria is subbed in later on.

Na Scaloni's main headache be this! Dont envy him at all, cos if any of the options backfires, people will say why didnt he adopt the other one.
