Akin Alabi reached into his pocket and pulled out some "chicken change" to show his appreciation to the performers.

Some Nigerians lambasted Akin Alabi after seeing the viral video, accusing him of spraying little money while being a billionaire.

Akin Alabi, on the other hand, has responded to social media critics on his Instagram page.

There was once a group of people queueing at the till in an upmarket shop. A young man was on this queue directly behind a middle aged man. The young man was sent by his boss as he clearly could not afford anything in that shop. As he reached into his pocket to bring out his phone a 20p coin (20 pennies) fell on the floor. He looked at it and just ignored. On noticing this, the middle aged man gently pointed out to the young man that he had dropped his money. The young man acknowledged but said he couldn't be bothered. The middle aged man asked him if he could take the 20p coin and the young man just waved him on. The middle-aged man picked up the coin, paid for his items and left the shop. On getting to the till, the sales girl excitedly informed the young man that the middle-aged man was the multimillionaire owner of a popular chain of restaurants. The young man obviously surprised then asked "why will he be bothering with 20p when he's so rich?", to which the sales girl sassily answered "maybe that's how he probably got rich, by bothering with every penny".
