Group of South Africans Cover Table Mountain with Huge Anti-Looting Banner (PIX) by TMKsouth(op):
Seven Cape Town residents in South Africa have carried a message of hope up the iconic Table Mountain to empathise with people in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng who have had their lives upended by the unrest in those provinces.

The message "We love you SA" was printed on to a massive banner as a show of solidarity with people reeling from the past week's events including rioting and looting sparked by the arrest of former president Jacob Zuma but soon became a revolt against the dire socio-economic conditions in the country.

The 50m square banner was the brainchild of Dylan Joseph, and the hikers set off at 04:00 on Thursday to display it.

The banner also contained an image of a heart and a copy of a giant South African flag.

"I have friends and family there and felt helpless, because there was not much I could do from here," said Joseph.

"I wanted to send a message, to let them know we feel their pain.

"I wanted to do something visual, which is where the idea of the big heart came from. Nelson Mandela united all races in South Africa, and it's about time we realised our power."

The banner took four hours to print and was a heavy load to drag to the top of the mountain.

"It's pretty hectic. It was a mission to get the banner up," he said.

But once on top, the group enjoyed breakfast and watched the sunrise.

"We had fun. And we realised that we're not helpless. We can send a message," he said.

I know u meant the protests - we were also sympathising with u in SA. But with us Nigerians are overjoyed.

Once you're done rejoicing, you should ask yourself why poor people are looting in SA instead of calling them barbarians. In 2011 in the UK there were major riots due to inequality and racism (see attachment). And I believe the UK is also packed with Nigerians.

The same happens with the Black Lives movement in the US. So Im gonna blame u guys for lack of analytical skills instead.

You don't understand
There are levels to this
Most people don't know there was looting during the EndSars
But most people don't know that there are protests in SA
The major headlines are Looting and Looting in SA
You guys should watch the imbalance of wealth
Nigerians are poorer but will never loot like this
Never.

And the reason for the "rejoicing" is that an average Nigerian doesn't like South Africa for obvious reasons

You guys could never loot coz u know SARS would massacre u all - u are also inheriantly looters but Buhari keeps it in check (there are plenty examples). In SA criminals know the police won't just kill them willy nilly that's why they take the risk.

Even though the major headline is looting there's also plenty of analysis going on in other countries' media regarding the root causes, unlike in Nigeria where u are masturbating over "lazy barbaric Zulus looting". It's bitterness and jealousy, I understand but SA always bounces back. We shall overcome and have already begun the cleanup and rebuilding8) cool cool

I agree that the inequality needs to be addressed - it's a ticking timebomb. And the inequality is not just a black and white thing - it's a class issue, because most black people didn't take part in this thing and stood up to defend the malls against rampaging.

Nah
The real reason we don't loot is because we know that we are doing ourselves if we do cause most Nigerian businesses aren't insured
Everyone knows that the enemy is the government
So we destroy things like police stations instead
The police in Nigeria is only good in quelling protests

But I know that a revolution is coming to Nigeria very soon
Nigerians may be divided by ethnicity but the enemy is the northern oligarchy and thier southern counterparts

You say about bubu
But why did we not loot in previous years before bubu

If Nigeria gets a government like SA's
It would explode
Nigeria has great potential
Even with the poverty we still strive to do things well
That's why Nigerians do good in things the government doesn't control

Sorry for the length of this

The reasons South Africans loot and burn things is historical - inherited from the struggle against apartheid where people wanted to render that regime ungovernable. It has unfortunately been carried over into democratic SA, especially now that the ANC has been corrupted and neglecting the poor.

The only time they respond to community grievances is when the people protest violently, so other communities replicate the behaviour because they see it works.

This time around the massive looting was exacerbated by the year-long lockdown, and just on Sunday the president had extended it again without much financial assistance for the poor outside what they normally receive. So these scenes were not surprising but nonetheless shocking and unprecedented.

Everyone is to blame for this, Zuma and his attempted coup was just the spark, but the conditions on the ground were fertile for a popular revolt after many years of neglect that began during his years in power.

That's just a little bit of context.

U should consider he's walking a tight political rope within his own party which is split in the middle among Zuma supporters and his own. So everything he does has to be a fine balancing act - things take twice as long to be achieved because of negotiations and opposition.

But this attempted coup is the final nail in the ANC coffin, it's definitely gonna split. Very soon the masterminds (including Zuma) will have to be prosecuted and Ramaphosa will gain full control of the ANC leaving Zuma supporters with no other option but to form their own party.

Then Ramaphosa will be able to implement all his promised reforms to kick-start the economy (the guy is one of the richest people in the country - he knows what needs to be done, corrupt incompetent Zuma faction has been sabotaging his efforts thus far).
