It's a terrible mess. The Social Democratic Party has a dysfunctional website, a rambling manifesto, a stark absence in many parts of the country and a big mouth which was last heard talking 'bout their readiness to rule Nigeria in 2019. With 30,000 votes.

Still I think they are the best bet for youths for two prominent reasons:

1. BARGAIN:
It's like Apple Stock with a hippie Steve Jobs. It's small, dysfunctional, and an uncertain option so now is the best time to buy into the illustrious party and craft it's program. We give the votes and they give the platform.

2. CONFIRM
2015 was not truly about Goodluck Jonathan. I know people who voted for Buhari across ethnic and party lines. They did so because of a callous indifference the political elite had suddenly assumed. CHANGE was to teach "them" a lesson, a test of democracy and collective schadenfreude --not because we thought an octogenarian would do anything better other than have his men steal less or quietly.

But we should not return to that abusive relationship we had with the PDP. We should press the point of citizen sovereignty. We should confirm the possibilities of our democracy.

You do not have much choice in the PDP or APC selection of candidates. The SDP is presently small enough for your voice to be heard.

This is why I wrote of "Bargain". We could be the candidates in our wards and states and we could exert pressure for candidature in national elections.

The youth problem should not be one of age or longevity. It should be our own participation in personal and civic affairs, not the condemnation of all things old.
